2011 USTA Northern California Tennis Hall of Fame Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki Larry Stefanki’s professional playing and coaching career began when his family relocated to Los Altos from Illinois. "We lived across the street from Los Altos High School; my older brothers Steve and John started playing and I followed suit," Larry explains. Though he also had a passion for baseball, basketball and wrestling, tennis eventually became his main focus, as he explains, "Tennis really suited me; I loved every part of it - the running and the geometry of playing inside a rectangular box – it never got old." Along with playing on the Los Altos High School team, Larry participated in NorCal juniors tournaments. "Tennis was huge at the junior level when I was growing up. Playing in that type of competitive environment drives you to become better," he explains. It was the legendary coach Tom Chivington that drew him to Foothill College his freshman year of college. "My brothers went to Foothill so I have known Tom since I was 10 or 11. Tom is a real special guy; he understood how competitive I was. He’d believe in you and back you and those are qualities that you need in a coach." As a freshman Larry played #3 singles and doubles, and was the first player to win both singles and doubles State Championships in one year. He then earned a three-year full scholarship to UC Berkeley, playing under Bill Wright, where he played #1 singles and earned All American status. As a player on the pro tour Larry earned a career high ranking of 30 in singles and 24 in doubles (with Robert Van’t Hof).

Inglês Texto I Watch out for Gustavo Kuerten. He is the most gentle soul on the tennis tour – a trace of the samba in his walk, a hint of a Brazilian beach in his smile – but watch out for him, all the same. Just by being on the same court with them, he has dispatched two players from the United States Open, with sudden pain in their lower backs. 05 First, he sent Pete Sampras home from a practice session before the tournament ever began. Then he disrupted Magnus Norman’s alignment in one set Tuesday in the Round of 16, without setting a pick or tackling anybody. Kuerten is the human version of the killer artificial turf at Giants Stadium, which disabled a Jets football receiver and a MetroStars soccer midfielder in the past week without their being touched by friend or 10 foe. In all, seven players have retired from Open matches with injuries and three others withdrew before- hand, but Kuerten is leading the league with two notches on his racquet. He doesn’t look like the poltergeist type. Known as Guga in the one-name Brazilian fashion, Kuerten doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in his body. Or any bones at all. Willowy at 6 feet 3 inches and allegedly 167 pounds, he seems a throwback to an age when most tennis players could not be imagined committing any other 15 form of sport. “How come you never became a soccer player?” somebody asked Kuerten yesterday, a reasonable ques- tion of a man from the spiritual home of the world’s most popular sport.

News Release 11 November 2018 DJOKOVIC PRESENTED YEAR-END ATP WORLD TOUR NO. 1 TROPHY AT 2018 NITTO ATP FINALS LONDON — Novak Djokovic was today presented with the 2018 year-end ATP World Tour No. 1 trophy during an on-court presentation at the Nitto ATP Finals, the season finale at The O2 in London. The Serbian is one of only four players in ATP Rankings history (since 1973) to have clinched the year-end top spot on five (or more) occasions, joining Pete Sampras (six), Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer (both five times). Djokovic, who replaced Spain’s Rafael Nadal at No. 1 on 5 November, has completed a remarkable comeback to top form in 2018, capturing four titles—including two Grand Slams and two ATP World Tour Masters 1000s – from six tour-level finals. Aged 31 and six months, Djokovic is the oldest player to finish year-end No. 1 in ATP Rankings history. Having previously finished at the top in 2011-12, 2014-15, he is the second player — after Nadal (2008, 2010, 2013 and 2017) — with three stints as year-end No. 1. He is also the first player to be ranked outside the Top 20 and finish the same season at No. 1 in the history of the ATP Rankings. Russia’s Marat Safin was as low at No. 38 on 28 February 2000 before becoming No. 1 on 20 November that year, but he did not finish the season at No. 1. When Djokovic fell to No. 22 on 21 May 2018, it was his lowest ranking since he was No.

What are my plans for improving the program? ............................................................... 12 1 1. Introduction - What is the grand slam tennis program? The Grand Slam Tennis Program allows you to see how recent grand slam tennis champions would fair against champions from the past. You can choose from more than 90 former men's grand slam champions and more than 80 former Women's Champions. In addition, you can choose to play the tennis match at the Australian Open, U.S. Open, Wimbledon, or French Open. International tennis matches can also be played, with the option of choosing from many countries around the world. The program is perfect for simulating individual match ups or holding an entire tournament. This is not video graphic game. It is a statistical game based on each former tennis player’s historical success in playing major grand slam singles events. While some players have a higher probability of success, their performance in any particular tournament is still subject to the laws of random probability. For example, a player who has had major success in the French Open is likely to do well in the French Open, but could still lose to a player who has had less historical success in the French Open.
