To Whom It May Concern on the RAB/BMI/MIW Selection Committee:

I am writing this letter to recommend Stacey Kauffman for the upcoming ‘Rising Through The Ranks’ Scholarship program and seminar.

I met Stacey about a year ago, when I was trying to recruit her to WUSN. In our initial meeting, not only did I find out we had parallel sales paths, but I also learned Stacey had a desire to get into Sales Management. From there, I tried to align her with sales opportunities inside CBS, because I thought she would be a phenomenal asset to CBS—and someone who I really felt will be a leader in our industry no matter what company she works for. About 2 weeks later Stacey informed me she had been internally promoted to Local Sales Manager of WDRV, a powerhouse station in Chicago. I was thrilled for her!

A little background on Stacey: She enjoyed a 10-year successful sales career (in radio at Susquehanna, Radio One and Bonneville/Hubbard and also in pharmaceuticals at Merck). With each position, she consistently met and exceeded sales goals in all areas- from new business development to incremental revenue/share and non-traditional revenue sources. About 5 years ago, she started prepping herself for the move into management by taking advantage of leadership, mentoring and training opportunities in her position at Merck, as well as the pursuit and completion of her MBA.

She is now 6 months into her management career, and is continuing to seek opportunities to not only grow and refine her skills, but to continue to learn techniques to improve her team. She strives to expand her knowledge and resources by plugging herself and her team into training opportunities that are relevant, such as RAB webinars. She is also registered for RAB's CRSM course in St Louis in June, and thinks that Rising through the Ranks would be a great follow-up to that. I believe it will be an excellent follow up!

I know Stacey is an ideal scholarship recipient because not only is she one of the few female sales managers in Chicago, but she was also internally promoted, and is learning to navigate that transition from AE to manager with her former peers. Rising Through the Ranks will help her to grow as a manager, but will also help her grow her own team, navigate the political ropes, and most importantly foster the light of being able to help other female AEs looking for mentoring on their own paths into management.

I am confident she will take the information and key learning’s and immediately put it into play at WDRV--and ultimately Hubbard Radio Chicago. I also think that this program will give her the ability to network with like-minded women in the industry, which is important since the environment we currently operate in locally in Chicago is still striving for balance as it relates to overall female leadership.

I truly hope you take Stacey Kauffman into serious consideration when deciding upon your scholarship recipients this year. If you have any further questions about Stacey, please don’t hesitate to call me directly. I can be reached at 312- 423-1233.

Warmest Regards,

To whom it may concern:

Working with Stacey Kauffman for the last three years has been a pleasure. She is a natural born leader that has an innate ability to find problems and solve them quickly. My professional experience with Stacey dates back a decade to her reputation in the Indianapolis radio market. After I joined a new management team in 2001 at Susquehanna Radio, I learned of Stacey and her abilities. She had just recently left the company I joined to take on of the biggest Account Executive positions in the market with a different station. Although at that point we did not work together, her reputation and name were frequent conversation in the Indy radio market.

From that point, we reconnected in Chicago were I hired Stacey as an Account Executive at WILV. It was our first time working together but she absolutely lived up to her reputation. While in the account executive role, Stacey lead the staff in new business development, was a regular goal achiever, and was the “go to” leader in the room. Stacey had multiple successful years at WILV where she won several sales contest and grew her business 20% per year. All of this was accomplished at a time where she worked to earn her MBA which she also successfully completed.

In December of 2012, I moved as General Sales Manager of WILV to the same position at WDRV. With this promotion came the opportunity to hire my own team which started with hiring Stacey as our new Local Sales Manager. After interviewing several candidates, Stacey clearly stood out and was chosen for the position. Over the last seven months Stacey has quickly acclimated herself as a leader and a driver. Her expectations for performance and her willingness to get her hands dirty make her an obvious asset. She has a solid core belief system and very strong character. Stacey is on the fast track to whatever her career pursuits lead her.

Sincerely,

Drew Medland
