05 INFORMATION CAT FOOD AND CAT LITTER AVAILABLE IN IRELAND

There are so many brands in the markets! The names we mention below are by no means endorsement. It’s just that we often notice clients from outside of Ireland feel quite confused when it comes to where to start their research on different brands available in Ireland. We decided to share our experience with the most common brands we see at our client’s home when we are cat sitting.

Wet Food- It is important to consult with your veterinarian about the best food that suits your cat’s needs!

Hills and Royal Canin are available at vet clinics. Supermarkets often stock Whiskas, Purina, and their own brands. Premium brands available in the EU are Applaws and Canagan Zooplus has exclusive on Porta 21 and Cosmo. Maxizoo has exclusive on Select Gold.

Treats

Stick treats - Tesco, Lidl, and Aldi do their own brand. Dreamies (or Temptation in North America) are available at Tesco. You can also find the premium brand at pet shops. 06 INFORMATION CAT FOOD AND CAT LITTER AVAILABLE IN IRELAND

Dry Food

Hills and Royal Canin are available at vet clinics, but they often don’t have both. Please contact your local vet clinic to check which brand they stock. A lot of vets also stock Burns, which is a Scottish brand developed by a retired vet. It is worth looking into it! Purina is available at Tesco. Premium brands include Acana, Applaws, Arden Grange, Burgess, Canagan, Orijen.

Litter

Each supermarket does its own brand of both clay litter, non-clumping litter, and clumping litter. They are usually not the best, but they are cheap. As cat sitters, we scoop many many many litter trays per day. Our favourites are the premium brands like World’s Best Cat Litter and Cat’s Best Cat Litter.

07 WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CAT GETS LOST IN THE CITY?

Do you know what you need to do when your cat is missing? Hint: it is not what you're thinking!

There is a lot of psychology and investigation behind it such as search probability theory, behavioral profiling, evidence gathering, and high-tech equipment.

The steps are as follow: 1) Search for your cat at home 2) Search at your neighbours and places near by 3) Use the equipment necessary 4) Facebook groups and posters+flyers

In this e-book we are going to give you a list of Facebook groups for step number four: Maow Care Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/maowcare/ Lost and found cats Ireland: https://www.facebook.com/Lost-and-Found- Cats-Ireland-454849137948450/ Lost and found pets Dublin: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1245164265519709/ Lost and found cats Dublin: https://www.facebook.com/groups/529516910745597/ 08 WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CAT GETS LOST IN THE CITY?

If you would like to learn more or need extra help, please visit our website for a full list of services related to Lost Cat Recovery: https://www.maowcare.com/missing-cat-rescue

We also have a course in Maow Academy that covers the basics for only €3!: https://maow-academy.teachable.com/p/missing-cat-psychology/

Alice is a trained Missing Animal Response Technician (aka Pet Detective), personally trained by the famous police-officer-turned-pet-detective Kat Albrecht. If you need help, give her a shout.

And just a reminder: Assume lost, not abandoned!

--> If you find a cat, always scan for the chip. --> If it looks "rough", it doesn't mean the cat is unwanted. The most pampered cat will look "rough" after one week outside. --> Don't assume "no one is looking for the cat", the person might not have access to Internet, or could be a victim of a crime, or got in a car accident. (Yes, all of the above happened!)
