NAME: Vanessa “Nessy” Wallace Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota Height: 5’3” Weight: 170 pounds Finishing Move: Running Powerslam STRENGTHS • Strong as a bull. This second generation grappler has met very few female wrestlers (and some of the men to boot) that she can’t overpower. Her slams are devastating, her suplexes awe-inspiring. • Larger than most of her opponents. Her size makes her a challenge for smaller opponents who generally find themselves unable to do much but try to get her off her feet. Good luck with that. • Temper. When she starts seeing red, she becomes even harder to put down... but she is prone to making mistakes when it happens so it’s a 50/50 shot in terms of strategy against her. WEAKNESSES • Stamina. Her size makes a long night at the office a very tough one for her. She prefers short matches. If you can get her into deep water, your chances improve dramatically. • Thin-skinned. Vanessa’s size made her the subject of a whole lot of bullying in her childhood and teenage years. Being the only daughter of Battlin’ Burt Wallace didn’t help matters. Her siblings gave her the “Nessy” nickname as a youth and it stuck. When she hears it, that temper is likely to go nuclear. • Inexperienced. Despite her brothers being in the business for some time, her father wanted something else for her. So, she had to go out on her own to get trained which put her a few years behind schedule. She’s made up for lost time on the indies but on the big stage, she may be overwhelmed. OTHER COMMENTS The lone daughter of Burt Wallace and the sister of the Wallace twins and Larry Wallace. Vanessa hasn’t always gotten along with her family and promoters in the Great Lakes area took advantage of that with some intergender matches against Chaz and Chet that were YouTube sensations. OUTLOOK FOR 2017 The AWA’s search for more competitors for the Women’s Division caught Vanessa’s eye even though none of her siblings would lift a finger to get her a gig. The fans and the office will be impressed by her incredible strength and she has the potential to make some waves in 2017. NAME: Van Clayton Hometown: Jonesboro, Arkansas Height: 6’8 Weight: 380 Finishing Move: Last Ride powerbomb STRENGTHS • Awe-inspiring power. A multi-time winner of various strongman competitions, this big country boy will stun the masses with the feats of strength he can perform in and out of the ring. • Size. This beast of a man will dwarf just about anyone he steps inside the ring with • Intimidation. Add the size and strength to a fearsome look and Clayton reduces most opponents to a quivering mess before the bell even sounds. WEAKNESSES • Greener than a pepper tree. Fresh out of the Combat Corner, Clayton has only been wrestling for about nine months but his raw power and dogged determination earned him the quick call to the big leagues. But he’s still a very inexperienced rookie and you’re likely to see him make lots of mistakes. • Self-control. To put it bluntly, he has none so expect lots of DQs and boneheaded decisions based on emotional and not logic. • Expectations. With so much size and strength and the quick stay at the Corner, many are predicting big things for Clayton but what happens if he fails? OTHER COMMENTS Grew up on a farm in Arkansas. Left the world of strongman competitions because his AWA contract offer was more than he’d ever made before. Sometimes seems to enjoy feats of strength more than the wrestling itself. OUTLOOK FOR 2017 Difficult to see the future for this one. There’s been a lot of big, strong dudes who have flamed out in the world of wrestling. The AWA trainers believe Clayton’s determination makes him different but only time will tell. NAME: Curt Sawyer and Alexander Kingsley Hometown: Dallas, Texas and Miami, Florida Height: 6’3”/6’4” Weight: 270/265 Finishing Move: Kingsley sets for a Russian legsweep as Sawyer delivers his big lariat STRENGTHS • Friendship. These two formed a bond during their brief time in the AWA together and have been friends ever since. This opportunity is big for both men and they know it and are looking to take advantage of it. • Mix it up. With Sawyer’s brawling mixed with Kingsley’s sweet science, they should have their bases covered against most opponents.. • Desperate men. Sawyer’s late start to a pro wrestling career means his days are numbered and he knows it. Kingsley’s recent financial troubles makes him eager to make a quick buck. Their backs are against the proverbial wall and they should come out fighting as they try to make an impact in the tag team division. WEAKNESSES • Lack of experience as a team. They’re good friends but have never teamed together before. Expect some growing pains as they get used to one another inside the ring. • Difference in attitude. Sawyer has always been the blue collar fan favorite while Kingsley was the spoiled rich brat. Can they find a way to co-exist? • Sawyer’s history of injuries. This former barkeep has had his pro wrestling career cut short by injuries seemingly every time he gets on a roll. Can he stay healthy this time? OTHER COMMENTS After a pair of brief AWA runs, Sawyer worked for World of Combat in 2016 until a leg injury brought on his release. Kingsley’s 2016 saw his father indicted for shady business practices, clearing out the family fortune. OUTLOOK FOR 2017 This team came about when the AWA offered to bring back Kingsley but only if he came in as a tag team. That led Kingsley to the only man he trusted enough to stand by his side - his friend, Curt Sawyer. This team has worlds of potential but at the moment, that’s all. Some in the front office have taken wagers the team will implode within months and they’ll be at each others’ throats. NAME: Mr. Stars And Stripes Hometown: The Streets of America Height: 6’2” Weight: 275 Finishing Move: Stars And Stripes Slam - pop-up powerslam STRENGTHS • Strong fan support. Clad in a mask that looks like the American flag, you better bet the calls of “U-S-A” ring out whenever he arrives on the scene. He relishes in those cheers and thrives on them. • Upper body strength. Mr. Stars And Stripes is built like a brickhouse and puts those muscles to good use inside the ring. Power is his game and he plays it well. • Incredible drive. This masked man says his goal is to make Americans proud again and he doesn’t intend to let them down. This mission statement drives Mr. Stars And Stripes to be able to absorb a lot of punishment in the ring and come back strong for more. WEAKNESSES • Identity. While Mr. Stars And Stripes says that you wouldn’t even know his face if the mask came off, that doesn’t stop some competitors from gunning for the mask. • Controversial. Mr. Stars And Stripes is very vocal about the injustices and corruption he sees in the USA right now and that’s earned him some detractors. • A target. Wearing that stars and stripes mask might as well be a bullseye for every America hating foreign menace rulebreaker that comes down the pipe. OTHER COMMENTS Not much is known about Mr. Stars And Stripes. His skills in the ring would imply that he’s got a background as a pro wrestler but under this mask, he’s only been on the scene for a handful of months. OUTLOOK FOR 2017 2017 is certainly ripe with corruption and injustice so Mr. Stars And Stripes should have a lot to talk about. But will his political leanings be an asset or a hindrance on his quest for success in the American Wrestling Alliance? NAME: The Big Top Circus (Loko, Boom Boom, Tiny, and Chuckles... and friends) Hometown: Under The Big Top Height: Weight: Finishing Move: Chaos STRENGTHS • The numbers game. This collection of clowns and sideshow freaks will outnumber anyone they come in contact with. Expect a standard tag match for them to have at least another 3-5 people at ringside. • Chaos. They thrive on chaos. Their gameplan is lots of interference, lots of silly clown spots, and as much chaos as they can generate to throw their opponents off their game. • Well-rounded. Tiny is a literal giant. Not a very good one as a pro wrestler but he’s got the size. Boom Boom brings the power as well and is a well-rounded performer. The other two are smaller but they can match speed with quicker teams. WEAKNESSES • Success is optional. For these clowns, winning a match is important but they might even consider it a win if they caused a little anarchy. • DQs. All the interference - while key to their gameplans - will eventually be seen from time to time. • Chaos. When total anarchy is your goal, things like a strategy often gets tossed aside. OTHER COMMENTS Who the heck are these guys? No one seems to know. They have wrestling skill though so you’d imagine they’re not completely new to the game. Became huge fan favorites in Mexico. OUTLOOK FOR 2017 Part of the AWA’s outreach into Mexico, the Big Top Circus could bring their popularity there to the States. With the tag division in flux, there is an opportunity for the right team to strike it big in 2017.
