Rolling Stone (3 of 5 stars) opens with the lush of lead single “,” created dance-floor havoc with a few off-kilter EDM breakdowns and dips its toes into breezy Swedish island pop. jumps into every track with equal enthusiasm, his reassuring voice adapting easily to each new setting and providing continuity across the LP.

Billboard With another Top 10 hit under his belt, the pop singer has continued to find success by operating in two musical modes. Perhaps more than any other artist in pop, Derulo has created a perfect equilibrium between his two modes, allowing his split personas to feed off of and support each other. And it's working commercially Derulo has been tweaking his two modes just enough as they are used to offset each other, so that audiences never grew sick of either style. And the strategy has so far worked beautifully. Give this to Derulo: he's a survivor. He bounced back from a terrifying neck injury, and from the pre-"Talk Dirty" threat of monotony. Now he's outlasting his contemporaries by honing the pair of sounds in which he operates most effectively. Derulo may only do two things, but he does them very, very well.

TIME Jason Derulo is getting ready for a hot summer

People People’s Pick: Everything Is 4 (#6) Derulo’s fourth LP has a little bit of what its title promises – everything. Thriller-era MJ nods are sprinkled in with twer-tastic club jams.

ELLE global pop phenom

Harper’s Bazaar To hit play on a Jason Derulo is to open up a can of earworms. Once one of his hook-heavy songs like "Talk Dirty," "Trumpets," "Wiggle," or, most recently, "Want You To Want Me" makes its way into your head, it's impossibly hard to get it out. Almost as hard as it is to keep the man in his shirt—not that anyone's trying too hard.

Entertainment Weekly 12 Biggest preview The man who taught the world to “Wiggle” returns to rule another summer.

Entertainment Weekly Hit machine

Star Magazine The superstar pop singer is hotter than ever

Billboard Derulo doesn’t rap -- his newest material blends earnest soul with carnal beats and ’80s synth-pop -- but he’s in a class with guys like and : hit machines who run on extreme discipline with a side of cheerful charisma.

SPIN (8 of 10) For a man who’s best-known for singing his name enough times to fill an hour, Jason Desrouleaux’s music really ascended when he decided it needed no introduction. A chart hotshot who keeps his album running times as trim as his glutes and even slimmed down his surname to better grace a billboard (or Billboard), he gives the try-anything ethos a good name and pries it from the jaws of such pop baggage as a Cultivated Persona or a Social Media Presence. Half of Everything Is 4 is the bullshit-free album that those of us who prefer future sex to love sounds have been waiting for Everything Is 4 makes a compelling case for whittled-down songwriting discipline as its own reward Fourth-grade, retrograde, retro-pop even, pining quietly for the simpler time when pop albums were variety packs aimed at both and fans, Jason Derulo doesn’t pretend to be anything he’s not. Say his name, say his name.

VIBE The past 365 have treated Derulo kindly and this album marks a breakout moment for the flourishing artist. He explores different sonic landscapes, ranging from soft, pop ballads with to funky -esque tunes. Wiggle room aside, Everything Is 4 solidifies his ability to dance between genres effortlessly

Stereogum The erstwhile Jason Desrouleaux has become pop’s most begrudgingly acceptable hitmaker, the high priest of faint praise. He makes soundtracking a Bar Mitzvah feel like a noble pursuit. The first half of the record, though, contains five tracks strong enough to outweigh the second half’s indiscretions. ..It’s an extremely solid run of songs, and it makes me wonder what Derulo’s discography would sound like if top-40 radio programmers didn’t encourage mediocrity with their ultra-conservative gatekeeping.

Grantland Sex for the most iconic pop stars was as much about presentation and performance as it was actual sex. You flaunted some forbidden, unspeakable unknown that the rest of the culture deemed too taboo to confront directly, and frightened people out of their damn minds on the way to successfully seducing them. Jason Derulo has a different philosophy: If it looks like humping, and it sounds like humping, and it smells like humping, then you might as well remove the subtext along with all other forms of protection. Derulo approaches sex like Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia addresses the Constitution — as a resolute literalist for that booty.

Newsday Jason Derulo has grown up. Derulo has hit his stride, easing back on all the sexy talk while still piling on the pop hooks. Derulo has also expanded his musical palette on "Everything Is 4," especially brushing off his -inspired falsetto on the unstoppable "Love Me Down" and its "Off the Wall"-inspired . "Everything Is 4" is a grand new start to the next, even bigger phase of Derulo's career, one where he can just let his music speak for itself. BOTTOM LINE A quantum leap forward in lyrics without losing his knack for a hook

Boston Globe Despite three inconsistent records, Jason Derulo has become a bona fide hitmaker, with an impressive string of cleverly produced singles heavy on irresistible hooks and innuendo. His fourth release is his most engaging, filled with carefully designed fluffernutter dance pop. While the disc seems born more out of calculation than inspiration (some songs have five writers) there’s an undeniable appeal to the savviest tracks (“Want to Want Me”). Derulo’s singing is more relaxed and confident (less Auto-tuning helps), and when he gets his freak on (“”), it finally sounds as if he actually means it.

Hit Fix R&B singer Jason Derulo banged out likable, big, broad pop for his fourth "Everything Is" album, but as contemporaries like and can attest, being likable isn't easy. Here, it is. Radio catnip "Want To Want Me" is as family-friendly as a booty call gets. Derulo plays nice with every guest: he and purr at each other; "Broke" with Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban is corny as hell and still charms; finally gets a choral melody deserving of her voice; Julia Michaels tames Derulo into more intimate space. Lyrically, he keeps things simple if not unmemorable, letting the production and mix tell the whole rest of the story.

All Music outfitted with sharp hooks and slightly retro and lightly funky touches. Just the same, it's eager for commercial radio play with bounding energy brimming over somewhat heartfelt but ultimately frivolous pop constructions. No one's looking to Derulo for advanced stylistic hybrids or deep thoughts. When Everything Is 4 avoids those creative impulses, as it tends to do, it's easily Derulo's most pleasing work.

Slant Magazine Everything Is 4 recalibrates a bit, updating Derulo's sound to current trends with 11 precision-tooled three-minute-and-change pop songs. But it also shuffles in nuggets of pop's past, revealing an artist with both a finger on the zeitgeist and an appreciation of his forbearers.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel It's obvious that no one in the world is more hellbent on becoming a pop superstar than Jason Derulo. With Derulo's silky falsettos, unshakable hooks and an '80s-pop reminiscent of Michael Jackson in his prime, "Want" is a leading contender for the most popular song of summer. But to be sure he attracts the widest audience possible, Derulo tries just about everything on "Everything." As a result, Derulo comes across more like a pop chameleon than a defined artist. Yet nearly every song, even "Broke," is instantly likable. If he keeps releasing hit songs at this pace, his pop superstar aspirations are bound to come true.

That Grape Juice Pop maestro Jason Derulo has become quite the hit vendor in recent years

Michigan Daily Jason Derulo released Everything is 4 at exactly the right time. The album is packed with songs ready to be blasted while driving with the windows down. The entire 11-track album, in fact, only boats two mid-to-slow tempo tunes, making it ripe for being the album of the summer.

Billboard “Numbers: Jason Derulo’s ‘Want’ Wins” Derulo continues his hot streak

USA Today Jason Derulo's new track is an '80s throwback Jason Derulo's Want to Want Me begins with a beat that could have come from some mid-'80s dance classic. But it's a falsetto that follows in the tradition of soul men like Smokey Robinson, Philip Bailey and Prince that makes the first single from Derulo's forthcoming summer album so irresistible. It also doesn't hurt that the synth stabs sound as though they come straight from Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me). Of course, like those other '80s favorites, , Derulo's doing his .

People A funky, throw-back sound

Entertainment Weekly Jason Derulo a pro at crafting catchy pop tracks—and his latest single is no exception. “Want to Want Me” combines Derulo’s Prince-esque falsetto and a dancy 80s-pop beat to create a track make that’s nearly impossible not to dance to.

Star Magazine The Fab 5: Want To Want Me (#3) Catchy, fast-paced pop mix

MTV Jason Derulo Just Wants To ‘Get Up Next To You’ On His Catchy AF New Single Seriously, how does Jason Derulo do it? Pretty much every song he drops — “,” “The Other Side,” “Talk Dirty,” — basically stays “In My Head” and turns out to be a huge hit. I have a feeling his newest song, “Want To Want Me,” is about to follow that same path. The contagious first single off Derulo’s upcoming fourth album is much different vibe from beat-heavy club tracks like “Talk Dirty” but just as catchy. “Want To Want Me” is a feel-good track that has Jason channeling with a pretty impressive falsetto.

SPIN Slicked-back synths (Robyn, is that you?), Derulo's evocative falsetto, and a muted little pre-chorus guitar lick wrap themselves around each other on the Top-40 staple's "lighter than air without a care" new one. It's no "Talk Dirty," in that it doesn't just trend-hop, which is a criticism Derulo's faced before. No, "Want To Want Me" does for the able-voiced singer what "Teenage Dream" did for : It offers a compelling, possibly career-altering step forward into the future.

Pop Crush “Want to Want Me,” is next-level catchy with just the subtlest whisper of his name at the top of the track — because who even is he without a dash of the cheese factor? The song has a decidedly ’80s feel in all its synth-pop glory, a departure from his more R&B-infused tracks of the past. But Derulo is no stranger to infectious pop songs — ask anyone who destroyed their radio in a rage after hearing “Trumpets” one too many times last year. “Want to Want Me” is about heat — as it pertains to the weather, his lady, their relations — and it may be his catchiest track yet. The overtly sexual nature of the lyrics paired with the song’s deceptively innocent danceability makes it just appropriate enough to listen to with your parents — so long as you don’t make eye contact with them at any point.

Idolator The smooth, falsetto-filled pop number is a fairly big departure from the more club-friendly vibe of “Talk Dirty” and “Wiggle,” relying on sing-along friendly melodies rather than supplying horn blasts and beat drops as hooks.

CBS Local Jason Derulo dropped his latest single ‘Want to Want Me’ this morning, and not only is the song really great, the YouTube video for JUST the audio is great too. It’s fun, perfect for summer pool parties, and a good sign for what’s to come from the singer.

With a riff worthy of or any other pop rock act, "Want to Want Me" finds Derulo away from the clubs as he tries to get up right next to you.

Artist Direct It's very Prince-like, thanks to the way in which Derulo uses his falsetto range. That Grape Juice A solid pop record Although, the striking similarities to the recent output from the likes of Maroon 5 and, to a lesser extent, One Direction, the track’s Pop-i-er lean is particularly interesting given that it follows ‘Talk Dirty’ – the album. it sounds as if Jason is re-embracing the sound he has achieved the most success with – Pop with light R&B sprinklings.

FRDMX (4.4 of 5) This song commands another smash record for the consistent singer. Derulo sounds invigorating, as there are no rappers in sight this time. It could be seen as a healthy competition alongside Nick Jonas’ smash hit, “Jealous.” A stunning vocal from Derulo gives the song a dazzling attractiveness. The contemporary composition gives off an 80s funk spirit due to the precise rock bass notes. Production here sounds like it is musically inspired by the album 1989 from pop singer . The main enchantment of this song is the pulsating instrumental. It’s amusing to see Derulo apart from the computerized dance-pop territory – diversity forever triumphs. As a single, it’s musically much-improved because he is not talking about asses, breasts, or sex in this song; the brother cannot “Talk Dirty,” all the time. The lyrics bring the listeners into a wildly engaging story. It is never dull or tiresome, as it immediately grabs the attention. If Jason Derulo continues making songs like this, the sky is the limit.

Pop U Love “Want To Want Me” loses the club-friendly vibes Jason had on his previous singles but welcomes a new 80’s sounding pop record. X Pop Blog Jason Derulo trades in the heavy urban beats that gained him much mainstream success in 2014 for 80s synth-pop on new single, ‘Want To Want Me.’ The song itself sounds as if Katy Perry and Adam Levine conceived a musical baby with Carly Rae Jepsen as the Godmother. In other words, it is pop perfection. From the intoxicating chorus to Derulo’s falsetto, ‘Want To Want Me’ is sure to gain the singer another chart topper. Idolator Jason Derulo hopped into his time machine and zipped back to the 1980s for his surprisingly awesome Everything Is 4 track “Cheyenne,” which, musically, sounds like it could have been whipped up during Michael Jackson’s Thriller sessions. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Gut Reaction: Derulo really, really wants to be a superstar, yet despite an exhausting work ethic that includes yet another album this summer, his second in as many years, latest single “Cheyenne” shows the quality isn’t suffering in the slightest. A spirited homage to Michael Jackson, it’s just as catchy as “Want to Want Me,” and “Wiggle,” and “Talk Dirty,” and all the other hit singles he’s been churning out since 2013.

::: BROKE :::

Billboard Broke," off his June 2 release Everything Is 4 is bit of an unexpected and very funky anti-gold digger anthem featuring Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban.

TIME The collaboration—though not the music itself—calls to mind “FourFiveSeconds,” ’s country- inflected song with Kanye West (not an altogether unexpected pairing, like Derulo and Wonder) and Paul McCartney (a bit more out of left field for Rihanna, like Urban and Derulo)…The genre-bending is nothing revolutionary, but it’s a welcome shake-up.

SPIN an irresistible pop tour-de-force that includes surprising highlights He’s certainly spreading his wings.

VIBE The thumpin’ tune sounds like Stevie riding through the Wild Wild West on a majestic stallion.

Hot New Hip Hop What appears to be insane on paper turns out to be a perfectly calculated hit, recruiting Keith Urban to capitalize on the country audience, and reworking the oft-imitated sax drop from "Talk Dirty" with a harmonica solo from none other than Stevie Wonder. It blurs the lines of country, R&B, and pop, and while at times does sounds a little crazy, for the most part sits comfortably with the rest of the radio hits these days.

Radio Jason Derulo, Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban walk into a bar. Nah, this isn’t the start to a joke: it’s Derulo’s new song “Broke” and its featured guest list. And boy, is it a weird one. Not that weird, in this case, is a bad thing, but it’s certainly unlike anything Derulo’s released from his upcoming new album so far. Think of “Broke” as a mashup between Derulo’s usual pop-inflected R&B, the post-chorus melody usually supplied by something like a trumpet or saxophone replaced by a harmonica—that’s where Wonder comes in, adding a quick solo toward the end.

Singersroom Jason Derulo may be far from "Broke" with a legend like Stevie Wonder on his song, but he does fantastic painting a realistic picture. Also featuring Keith Urban and produced by , on the track, the hit singer-songwriter sings about a former fling who was all about the benjamins. Derulo is a master when it comes to sexy club songs.

Music Times The way that "Broke" works is by keeping the featured artists into the instrumental arena, with Derulo taking sole vocal duties, except for some glorious riffing from Wonder near the end of the track. Despite the lack of guest vocals, the distinctive flavors of Urban and Wonder are there. A banjo and heavy handed acoustic guitar give "Broke" a country flair that would make this song a welcome track to the likes of Florida Georgia Line or even that country outlaw Eric Church. Hand claps and a call and response verse near the end of this song add to the down home element. Wonder comes via the harmonica, and he kills it (of course) with an extended solo at the back end of the track. Sometimes throwing everything against the wall and seeing what sticks works. Sometimes it's been unsuccessful for Derulo. However, on "Broke" blending together soul, R&B and country works out well.

The STASHED Jason Derulo is singing a new tune on his latest single “Broke.” In a time when we’re used to hearing the upside of having millions, Derulo enlists Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban to share a message most have already come to know. As Puff Daddy and Ma$e put it back in the days: Mo’ money, mo’ problems. It’s this theme of the possibility of hitting rock bottom that has the Florida native contemplating everything around him, including love. “If I was flipping burgers on the nightshift would you choose me? Would you let me take you home if I drove a hoopty,” he questions at the start of the song. Even though he’s far removed from those days, the powerful lyrics puts listeners right in the middle of all his “what ifs.”

Direct Lyrics Pretty solid album song. Jason’s vocals sound terrific, I’m feeling the production, and the “Senorita” vibes, and it’s further proof that JD’s forthcoming “Everything is 4” LP is going to be a multi-genre stunner. Love it.

Ace Showbiz On the country-tinged R&B track, Derulo's slick vocals blend perfectly with Wonder's harmonica and Urban's banjo.

::: TRY ME :::

Idolator Simply titled “Try Me,” the tune has a breezy island feel that will have you longing for the forthcoming summer season

Radio The two stars trade off flirtatious verses over a bubbly, summer-ready beat. The song sounds like a middle ground between the hard-hitting rap songs like “Wiggle” and his more pop- oriented work. Singersroom Jason Derulo unleashes another sexy club gem called "Try Me," featuring Jennifer Lopez. On the dancefloor groove, produced by Norwegian producer Matoma, Derulo is looking to lock down something sweet while JLo adds her flare to the magnetic vibe.

FDRMX “Everything is 4” is currently one of the most talked about RnB albums if you hang with the right crowd. Jason Derulo is about to break records if we are to go by the stats the preleased singles have gathered. Jason Derulo has displayed a remarkable growth in his musical journey and it is improbable that a man that has finally established a distinguished sound can fail to deliver on his latest album. It has been a tough journey for him leading to this album. It is one of those songs that captivate you right from the start. Jason Derulo sings the intro and takes the first verse on an instrumental that plays like it’s preparing your mind for a massive explosion. And indeed it is. By the time the chorus comes in, you have a rash from the goosebumps of the amazing sound of this song. “Try Me” flows calmly and keeps building the intensity as it goes to the chorus. Jason has his vocals on point like always is and he beautifully challenges her to try him. Satisfaction is guaranteed in the morning, evening, afternoon and night when she is with him. All this is seductively sang. Then Ms. Lopez calmly lays her vocals onto the track for the second verse and you just die. It’s been long since she made such a noteworthy appearance on a song. “Try Me” bestows Jennifer Lopez as the pleasant surprise on Jason Derulo’s “Everything is 4” album. As she sings you feel the splendid vocals and notes comfortably flow to produce this highly enjoyable song. She is all about finding a place and getting to know each other first. She is not rushing for anything and she asks him to take his time before she also dares him to try her. The best part of this duet is the effortless merging of two completely different styles by two artists I had never imagined would appear on the same song. Jason Derulo has the most unexpected collaborations and they often turn out well. When you throw such a surprise at the audience, it is a victory if it sounds this exceptional.

Less Than 3 As the hands-down highest-profile collab in the genre's short history, Try Me has all the makings of a tipping point for the tropical house sound as it sails toward mainstream radio embrace. With the sound's obvious natural appeal already having hollowed itself out a stable niche in , tropical house looks ready to dominate on a larger scale as it gets escorted into the greater pop sphere by names like Derulo and Lopez... and Warner, of course. Simply put, get ready to hear this everywhere.

Ace Showbiz The two singers trade some flirty, sensual lines about finding a new love over the catchy, summery beat

Examiner (@ IHeartRadio mini-concert) He was able to give his iHeartRadio audience members and the fans watching a home a glimpse into his latest studio effort, and from what he performed, his new CD sounds very promising. He displayed an immense amount of talent, not only as a vocalist, but as a dancer as well, proving that he is indeed one gifted performer. His live show garnered an A rating.

Digital Journal (@ iHeartRadio mini-concert) Jason Derulo was incredible at his iHeartRadio live mini-concert at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City, which was presented by P.C. Richard and Son. He proved to be a charismatic performer that was able to belt out the high notes, while simultaneously displaying his superb dancing skills. In this intimate setting, he was able to interact well with his New York audience. His show was uplifting and a great deal of fun. It garnered 5 out of 5 stars.

Boston Globe (@ Kiss Concert) Judging by the crowd’s response before and during his set, though, Jason Derulo was the night’s real headliner. Derulo burst onto playlists in 2009 with the -sampling “Whatcha Say,” which spent a week in the Hot 100’s top spot that November; he quickly became as known for dropping blipped- up shoutouts to himself into hits like “Ridin’ Solo” as for the songs themselves. But in 2014 he transformed into a pop sex symbol with “Talk Dirty,” which brings together saxophone bleats and wiggly beats, and “Trumpets,” a brass-festooned ode to a woman who, to hear him tell it, is as beautiful as a song. “Want to Want Me,” his current single, is a front-runner for 2015’s Song of the Summer; its verses’ “Heart of Glass”-inspired bassline and Derulo’s coaxing falsetto explode into a blissful chorus, and on Saturday night it had the Xfinity Center crowd at peak excitement, ready to ride its wave all the way through whatever the dog days had to offer.

Idolator (@Ellen) The candidates for Song Of Summer 2015 continue to come in by the day, and there’s little doubt that Jason Derulo‘s breezy, falsetto-heavy “Want To Want Me” will surely be one of the bops to overtake radio this season. Derulo turned it out all over the stage with a fantastic display of live vocals and those super sexy, super smooth moves. He’s really a talented entertainer, and this performance proves just how much he can really work the room — even without taking his shirt off. (Sorry to disappoint!)

Ryan Seacrest (@Ellen) Jason Derulo had the entire audience at Monday’s taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show swooning over his performance of “Want to Want Me.” Jason, who is a judge on Season 12 of So You Think You Can Dance, also used the entire stage to flaunt some fancy footwork during his sexy performance.

Ameristream (@Ellen) Jason Derulo always manages to dazzle!

Perez Hilton (@) And while his singing was certainly swell, especially those falsetto parts, it really was his dancing that sold it for us!

Perez Hilton (@ iHeartRadio Music Awards) Homeboy didn't even need backup dancers because his Michael Jackson-style moves were definitely on point

Pop Crush (@ iHeartRadio Music Awards) You know how everyone thought Chris Brown was the second coming of Michael Jackson for like seven seconds? They were wrong, because Jason Derulo is.“

Hollywood Life (@ iHeartRadio Music Awards) Jason brought down the house with an energy-filled performance of ‘Want To Want Me’ at the iHeartRadio Awards! The singer got the crowd going wild while performing his sexy and smooth new hit, and of course, looked incredible while doing so!
