As at the 1 June 2012 the following qualifications are accredited by The Tax Institute as equivalent courses. Some Master of Accounting, Master of Commerce and Master of Professional Accounting will also be considered equivalent but will need to be determined on a case by case basis according to the subjects studied. For example, at least 50 per cent of the units must be in Australian taxation. Overseas qualifications may have equivalence from an educational viewpoint but as their subject matter is not in Australian taxation law the applicant will not be able to rely on this alone for equivalence. CTA designees from other jurisdictions (CTA from UK or CTA from Ireland) will be required to complete the Course in Australian Taxation Law to bridge their qualifications and designation into Australian tax law. Please note: Master of International Tax from an Australian university will be accepted as the studies undertaken are based on how international businesses intersect with Australian Taxation Law. Please note the CTA Exam equivalence will be retired by 1 October 2012 and applicants will be required to undertake the CTA3 Advisory Exam from 1 October 2012.
