Ravi Rana, Col. J. M. Arora, Mr. Amit Dubey, Mr. Vikrant Chopra and our special invitees Mr. Praveen Bhasin & Brig. Vijay Manchanda, have provided their valuable time & efforts to bring up the standards of maintenance of the NGC Course. They have taken painstaking efforts to direct the ground staff and ensured that excellent results are achieved in a short time. In the month of March Coring of the Greens was undertaken and it was done in an extremely professional manner, as a result all greens as of now play excellently well and enjoy the high and reputable standards of any good Course. The quality of Greens is highly appreciated by all Golfers, both NGC and the visiting Golfers. The ground staff has indeed done NGC proud. Prior to undertaking coring of the Greens, temporary Greens were prepared and maintained for play in the interim period. Thanks to the Ground Staff in preparing these temporary Greens to standards unheard of in the history of NGC. This was well commented by NGC Members and greatly appreciated. I am also happy to report that a new irrigation system has been put in place. This has been done through a contract with Surge Systems India Private Limited. They have replaced nearly 300 new pop up sprinklers and done up gradation of other irrigation systems. NGC normally had two operational pumps for water supply and invariably one was under maintenance. In the recent months we were successful in commissioning the third pump house. All in all, new pumps and motors have been installed and these are now functioning to the full potential. The Fairways are now fully green and thus Golf is more enjoyable. Furthermore all Fairways have now undergone Coring which is an annual feature. The Fairways will yet become greener and play will become more enjoyable. The Singapore event came out tops in a voting exercise by more than 300 golfers who play in Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia. Although the prize-money for the event had dropped from a high of US$7 million to US$1 million, the Singapore Open, Tinaugurated in 1961, is a very popular tournament even among the world’s best players. Previous winners of the award include Ho Tram Cham- pionship in Vietnam and the Thailand Golf Championship in Thailand. Golfers such as Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Angel Cabrera and Sergio Garcia have graced the Sin- gapore Open which has made Sentosa Golf Club’s world- acclaimed Serapong course its home since 2005. So it came as no surprise that at the Asian Tour’s annu- al awards gala night at the Royal Jakarta Golf Club on Dec 17, the Serapong layout was named the Best Course of the Year for 2017. Promoters Lagardere Sports’ vice president (Golf Asia) Patrick Feizal Joyce said: “Winning the tournament of the year on the Asian Tour is a terrific accolade and one we are extremely proud of.
