Daniele Hesse: Hello Cher Harrington: Hi :) Daniele Hesse: would you like to run a story about the Silver Radio? Cher Harrington: I would love it :) Cher Harrington: thank you :) Daniele Hesse: So you have two Internet radios? Cher Harrington: Yes, I run Radio Cher, which is headquartered at the Zurich sims, soft rock 24/7 and then also SL Live Radio, which is headquartered in the Dublin 2 Sim, currently I have 164 SL Live Artists who have songs on it, it runs 24/7 Daniele Hesse: So the live shows are recorded and played 24/7? Are any done live? Cher Harrington: The artists send me mp3's, some are songs that they recorded from a live show here, some are professionally recorded, but there aren’t any “live” shows per say on it. Daniele Hesse: Cool, I am going to put the info from your profile in this IM Daniele Hesse: SLive Radio: http://www.slliveradio.com/ - website or http://66.34.54.162:8014 hosted by PickSL Dublin AND Radio Cher: URL: http://66.34.54.162:8012 www.myspace.com/radiocher Harrington: yes that is great. Daniele Hesse: MBC gives away TV sets to you have SL radios, do hand out to listeners? Cher Harrington: no, I have signs that show who is playing. Cher Harrington: I do get IMs about the artists and they have gotten bookings from people tuned in. Cher Harrington: Last week we had over 2000 unique listeners from 69 different coun- tries. Daniele Hesse: that is great, what is your business model, how do you pay for the steams? Cher Harrington: its courtesy of PickSL Dublin Services, owned by Ham Rambler as a way to promote live music in SL and RL. Cher Harrington: He does a lot for the music community. Daniele Hesse: that is really cool Daniele Hesse: Is Ham Rambler in SL also? Cher Harrington: yes Cher Harrington: there is a press release on the website also: http://www.slliveradio.com/11-29-2007.htm Cher Harrington: Dublin streams RL simulcasts from new artists in the UK to Dublin SL Daniele Hesse: How has this music venture affected your second life? Cher Harrington: I love live music...I have been a DJ for 5 years and when I heard live art- ists in second life, I would ask them for their songs to play on air, to promote them. Cher Harrington: I have progressed from DJing some songs to being able to play their mu- sic 24/7 now, and I am now also booking artists for Dublin and Diegoland, so I guess live music has taken over my SL Life, but I love it :) It's my joy :) Daniele Hesse: Wonderful, How are the music venues in SL doing? I know it has been tough to get support for sim costs etc? Cher Harrington: In Dublin, we have RL sponsors that help, Triumph Cove and Orchard Mu- sic Park, where I help hostess, is sponsored by Blaze Columbia, so we don’t have venue tip jars at these venues. Cher Harrington: I do give to other venues to help support them, for the artists so they have other places to play: Zurich has RL sponsors also, its difficult, I know. Daniele Hesse: Music in SL seems to be doing quite well, where do you think it is headed in the future? Cher Harrington: I would like to see the SL artists hit it big in RL, promotions expanding to RL, making more money.... SL is exploding on the music scene right now and I do see it get- ting much bigger for all :) Cher Harrington: Bands coming in, simulcasts, so much more now to offer in SL music than there was Daniele Hesse: What RL experience do you find most helpful to you now in Second life? Cher Harrington: I've been a teacher, then in sales and tech support and marketing for 20 years now. All that RL experience in my RL jobs has helped me tremendously -- trouble- shooting, promoting, and working with people :) Daniele Hesse: You seem to be doing a most professional job. Is there anything else you would like our readers to know? Cher Harrington: I am here to help the music community, to give back, however my skills may be needed, music is my joy here :) And tune into SL Live Radio :)) Daniele Hesse: Thank you so much, it is lovely to meet you. Cher Harrington: Thank you too :) I am so glad you asked :) Daniele Hesse: Who is your favorite artist? Cher Harrington: OMG you are going to put me on the spot :) Too many to say :))

Glamour Shots by Trixee Trotter and Timeless Photography

Photography has been my hobby for a number of years in real life. I have traveled all over the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. I have taken hun- dreds of photos during my travels.

Before digital photography, I had my own dark- room. I won a few photography contests and even had an article published about me in our local newspaper. Some of my photos were published in national magazines (Bird Talk and Bird Breeder). Many of my parrot photos still circulate around the web.

I joined Second Life in September 2006 and discovered the fun of taking photos in Second Life. In March 2007 I joined "Photography by Blackhawk" and with Chief’s help I began taking professional photos. Recently the studio name was changed to "Timeless Photography."

In May 2008 Chief Blackhawk and I opened a brand new Timeless Pho- tography Studio with top quality Photo Life equipment. The new studio in Second Life is located at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alpha%20Centauri/188.915/114.685

Chief and I take pride in providing the best possible photographs for our clients. Glamour Shots and SL Entertainers shots are my specialty, however, I enjoy doing all types of photos around SL. I enhance my photos with custom backgrounds, specialized text, frames and tubes using PS, PSP X2 and Gimp to create my designs.

I am enjoying Second Life experience and plan to continue expanding my knowledge to become one of the best photographers in SL.

NMC Announces $100,000 in Virtual Learning Prizes

The New Media Consortium (NMC) is calling for proposals for the 2008-09 NMC Virtual Learning Prize, a US$100,000 competitive program of awards intended to create a collec- tion of innovative open-source learning experiences that make use of the unique attributes of a virtual learning environment. MMC will award up to 20 Virtual Learning Prizes in 2008.

Each of the US$5,000 awards will provide a cash incentive to the awardees; $500 as well as $4,500 in expert development assistance from the NMC Virtual Worlds team to create the learning experience. The range of in-world services available to awardees to actualize the proposed ideas includes professional building, scripting, design, animation and avatar design.

The NMC, a not-for-profit organization that includes more than 260 learning-focused or- ganizations, dedicated to exploring the use of new media and new technologies. NMC member institutions are found in almost every state in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. The membership includes colleges and universities as well as a growing list of innovative museums, research centers, foundations and forward-thinking compa- nies.

The organization says it is committed to pushing the boundaries of how we collectively view teaching and learning in virtual space. The NMC Virtual Learning Prize is a way to re- alize creative ideas for how to make optimal use of a virtual setting, using a process that provides recognition, financial incentives and professional development services for educa- tion.

“Projects funded under the NMC Virtual Learning Prize program will be those that make learning fresh or novel, or that illustrate concepts that are usually very difficult to teach,” said Dr. Larry Johnson, NMC’s CEO and director of NMC Virtual Worlds. “We are seeking immersive learning experiences in particular, as well as tools that support the craft of teaching. We hope to see a number of proposals with broad applicability across disciplines as that will allow us to maximize the reach of the shared resources that are to be developed under this program.”

All materials and content produced as part of the program will be licensed for broad use under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 United States License. More in- formation on that can be found at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/us/ . Proposal authors will retain full copyright and all funded materials will be made available to educators and educational institutions at no cost via either the NMC’s Educational Re- source Center on Learning in Second Life or via the NMC’s website.

For the 2008-9 award year, funded ideas will be limited to those that can be implemented in the virtual worlds of Second Life or Project Wonderland. In future years, the program may be expanded to other virtual world platforms.

Review of proposals will begin on June 16, 2008, and proposals will continue to be ac- cepted until all funds have been expended.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal, you can find more information about the award at http://www.nmc.org/virtual-learning-prize .
