Galleywood Grapevine 7 Galleywood Parish Council Annual Parish Meeting The Annual Parish Meeting is a statutory duty of the Parish Council and enables the Parish Council to engage with local residents. The attendance and involvement demonstrate that the council is prepared to listen to the views of local residents. At this year’s Annual Parish Meeting there were display tables from local groups and organisations the Galleywood Women’s Institute kindly served refreshments before the main meeting began at 7pm. At the beginning of the meeting there were two very interesting speakers – Essex Air Ambulance and Steve Mack from the Citizens Advice Bureau. The Parish Council would like to thank those residents who attended the meeting and pictured below are some photographs, some kindly provided by John Turkentine. May Graham May Graham of Pyms Road has lived in Galleywood for many years, and on 1st April 2019 was 105 years old. Here she is with a card from the Queen and a beautiful bouquet of flowers presented to her by Galleywood Parish Council. She was surrounded by flowers and cards when I visited her, and didn’t look 105. Her family held a lunch in her honour and she met up with lots of family and friends. Well Done May. I am very pleased to announce that the Parish Council achieved the Foundation Level in the Local Council Award Scheme. This recognises that the Parish Council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement.

Five blue heritage plaques have been installed around the village in locations recognised as being important to the history and development of Galleywood. They have been installed at the Galleywood Heritage Centre, Road; Rous Cottage, The Common; the Keene Hall, Watchouse Road; Essex Youth Centre, Watchouse Road; the Horse and Groom Public House, Horse and Groom Lane. An unveiling ceremony took place on Saturday 8 June 2019 by the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, Dr Simon Lyster and was incorporated into the Galleywood Festival weekend. The unveiling of the first plaque at the Galleywood Heritage Centre was followed by a guided walk provided by the Galleywood Historical Society. Shown are some photographs from the day.
