PATIENT & CAREGIVER EDUCATION Adjuvant Therapy for Breast Cancer This information explains what adjuvant therapy is, how different kinds of adjuvant therapies work, and how to manage possible side effects. What Is Adjuvant Therapy? Adjuvant therapy is treatment given in addition to your breast surgery. It’s used to kill any cancer cells that may be left in your breast or the rest of your body. It’s also sometimes given before surgery to help make the procedure easier to do. Adjuvant therapy lowers the chance of having your breast cancer come back. Your doctor will decide which therapy is right for you. Adjuvant therapy could be 1 or more of the following: Chemotherapy kills cancer cells by stopping the cells’ ability to multiply. Your chemotherapy may last 3 to 6 months or longer. Hormonal therapy uses medications to stop your body from making some hormones or change the way these hormones affect the body. Hormonal therapy may be taken for years. Antibody therapy is when antibodies attach to growth proteins on cancer cells and kill cancer cells. Antibody therapy may be taken for up to 1 year. Radiation therapy targets cancer cells that doctors can’t see but remain in the breast or lymph nodes after surgery. Radiation therapy may last 3 to 7 weeks. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which revolutionized the treatment of metastatic disease, have not provided a similar survival benefit in the adjuvant setting and currently only sunitinib is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for adjuvant treatment in patients with high-risk of recurrence based on S-TRAC disease-free survival data. REMEMBERING EDOUARD BOROVANSKY AND HIS COMPANY 1939–1959 Marie Ada Couper Submitted in total fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2018 School of Culture and Communication The University of Melbourne 1 ABSTRACT This project sets out to establish that Edouard Borovansky, an ex-Ballets Russes danseur/ teacher/choreographer/producer, was ‘the father of Australian ballet’. With the backing of J. C. Williamson’s Theatres Limited, he created and maintained a professional ballet company which performed in commercial theatre for almost twenty years. This was a business arrangement, and he received no revenue from either government or private sources. The longevity of the Borovansky Australian Ballet company, under the direction of one person, was a remarkable achievement that has never been officially recognised. The principal intention of this undertaking is to define Borovansky’s proper place in the theatrical history of Australia. Although technically not the first Australian professional ballet company, the Borovansky Australian Ballet outlasted all its rivals until its transformation into the Australian Ballet in the early 1960s, with Borovansky remaining the sole person in charge until his death in 1959. In Australian theatre the 1930s was dominated by variety shows and musical comedies, which had replaced the pantomimes of the 19th century although the annual Christmas pantomime remained on the calendar for many years. Cinemas (referred to as ‘picture theatres’) had all but replaced live theatre as mass entertainment. The extremely rare event of a ballet performance was considered an exotic art reserved for the upper classes. ‘Culture’ was a word dismissed by many Australians as undefinable and generally unattainable because of our colonial heritage, which had long been the focus of English attitudes. -

Adequate renal and hepatic function . Age less than 70 EXCLUSIONS: . Creatinine greater than 1.5X normal . Significant hepatic dysfunction . Pregnant or breast feeding women TESTS: . Each day in Australia 396 people a day are diagnosed with cancer, that’s 145,000 Aussies per year who deal with a diagnosis, which is more than most daily COVID totals, and 50, 000 will die. It certainly doesn’t go into isolation because of COVID. Recently many people have had their diagnosis delayed due to COVID (Medical Republic, 12th May 2020, Francine Crimmins), because many have been reluctant to see their doctors or have tests done. Alarmingly, Cancer Council Victoria have reported a 37% drop in breast cancer diagnoses and the University of Melbourne, Cancer Research Centre says the costs to the Australian healthcare system will be large. Cancer continues, and this means that thousands of Australians will continue to be diagnosed (hopefully) and treated amongst the virus crisis, creating further stress on individuals and the healthcare sector, but delays in cancer diagnosis may be far worse.
