At press time, Claus had not released which two would be making the journey with him. Albury said, "We tried to get authorization for all eight, but the powers that be wouldn't allow it. We're just glad he'll be able to come here to deliver gifts to the children." Claus has also been informed Rudolph will not be authorized to travel to Gitmo since his nose may be used as a homing beacon for enemy weapons. Claus must also ensure both reindeer are "chipped" by the base veterinary detachment before departing. This is done in case the reindeer are sepa- rated from Claus while in Gitmo, the base vet can scan the deer to make sure they belong to Claus so he can retrieve them.
