China Mania! The Global Passion for Porcelain, 800-1900

Beginning of the Becoming: Batak Sculpture from Northern Sumatra

Budi Daya

Now till 29 Showcasing artefacts alongside contemporary art, Budi Daya explores the March 2015 value and meaning of ‘culture’ from the Malay perspective. This multi-layered, _ exhibition features 57 artefacts drawn from the National Collection and private Malay Heritage loans as well as 18 new commissions, performances and existing works by artists Centre from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam. _ Free admission Budaya, the Malay word for ‘culture’, extends into the concepts of budi and daya as expressed in the exhibition title. Budi originates from the Sanskrit buddhi, meaning ‘intellect’ or ‘wisdom’, but when adapted into the Malay language, has expanded to include ‘ethics’ and ‘graciousness’. Daya refers to a person or community’s abilities, skills and capacities. Now till Spice Is Nice traces the voyages of discovery, the history of the spice trade and 1 January 2015 its impact on Singapore, traditional cures and flavours of regional cuisine. _ Singapore During the 15th to 17th century, European countries such as Spain, Portugal Philatelic and the Netherlands sent ships and men to track down the origins of spices. Zhongshan Warship & Its Treasures

Now till Zhongshan Warship and Its Treasures tells the story of the vessel that gained 19 April 2015 fame in its role saving Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Madam Soong Ching Ling after the 10am – 5pm rebellion led by Chen Jiong Ming in 1922. A collaboration between the Sun Yat (Tuesday Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and the Zhongshan Warship Museum in Wuhan, - Sunday), China, this exhibition showcases more than 50 original artefacts salvaged closed on from the Zhongshan Warship. From honorary plaques to military equipment, Mondays these artefacts are displayed outside of China for the very first time. _ Sun Yat Sen Originally named Yongfeng Warship, the warship was renamed Zhongshan in Nanyang honour of Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s achievements and contributions after his passing Memorial Hall in 1925. On 24 October 1938, after suffering extensive damage from attacks _ launched by Japanese fighter planes, it sank in the waters of the Yangtze River Free admission near Jinkou, a town in Wuhan. There, the Zhongshan Warship lay submerged for Singapore until it was salvaged 59 years later, in 1997.
