Ashfield

vs Joondalup United

All flags State League Division 1 4th June 2016 Official Match Day Program, Round 8, issue 4 My Word by Bill Busby club President Busby Welcome Joondalup United to Ashfield Reserve. We never have any easy games with Joondalup and whilst their 1 st team are well placed sitting in 2 nd spot with 16 points, they lead us by 5 points with us in 4 th on 11 points. We sure we want to close the gap and with a home fixture we are determined to regain our momentum, despite a string of injuries we are getting stronger and with that strength comes confidence, and a desire to do well. As always I ex- pect both teams will give no quarter today and we on the balcony will be cheer- ing our ASHY boys on. I am sure Paul Dundo and Gerry Wardle will be pushing our team in this important fixture. Our reserves are just one point behind Joondalup. With some excellent young talent coming through our reserves, and the way our coach Barry Richards leads his team, we are privileged to be able to enjoy the talent on the pitch, plenty of pace and endeavour with 100 per cent effort, lets pip Joondalup and rise to the top over our visitors I am quietly confident in Barry’s boys being able to contain the top scoring Joondalup who have scored 35 goals. Add to that the 24 we have scored and the supporters should see plenty of goals today. Last week our under 18s lost narrowly 1 - 0,and we know our super coach Mark Humphreys will be using his best talents to get our 18s back on the winning trail, we have a talented team that Mark has got to a position of being consis- tent and more importantly playing great football. We have a lot of boys ready to push up into the ressies and 1 st teams. This is another opportunity to impress the coaches and show on the pitch, that they have the talent and strength to push up, and impress Barry Richards and Paul Dundo/Gerry Wardlle.

I ENCOURAGE ALL PLAYERS AND SUP- PORTERS IN TO OUR CLUB- ROOMS AFTER THE GAMES.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to our game against Joonda- lup United in what promises to be a great game. It's been a rough 3 weeks! 2 points from 9! However I can't fault the effort from the lads. We haven't had the rub of the green and still need to work on a few improve- ments. As a coach's that's what we're here to do, take the rough with the smooth and develop the players we have. The main thing is that we are still second in the league with a chance to go to top this weekend. I’ve asked the lads to re - focus and ask themselves why they play for the club and whether they want to go all the way this year. If they're up for it then so are Jamie and I. If we can get something from this week's game we are right back in the pack coming up to mid season. We have the ability, but do we have the mentality? I think we do! So we will see. Thanks to all the supporters in advance and good luck to the 18's and first team this weekend. It's a big one! Best of luck to all the players Jamie and I are proud of what you have achieved so far and there is still a lot of football left in this league. Barry

Paul Dundo - from the Technical area A warm welcome to Nick Jennings and all the boys from all three Joondalup United sides. This fixture has been billed the “match of the round” and for good reason we have played each other 4 times in two seasons and each game has been a cracker. Already there is a rivalry between the two clubs bred from the desire for both to be successful. Joondalup have had a great start to their Semi pro life with an unbeaten run winning Div 2 and placing well in their inaugural season in Div 1 last year. Today's game will be an opportunity for both clubs to make ground on the league favourites Mandurah, with Joondalup playing them next week and us the week after this month will have a massive influence on the league title. All three sides are ultra competitive and followers of division one football are in for a treat this month. Our start to the season was not what I wanted but we are now starting to hit our straps, last weeks 2 nil win against Canning was our first clean sheet of the season but I was impressed with the way we dominated a determined Canning side who are much improved from last year. Injuries and suspensions have taken a toll but as I have always said it’s not the first 11 that leagues are won with it is the second 11 and I am proud that the lads stepping up have taken their opportunities to impress with some being asked to play out of position and doing a fantastic job. Our Ressies are well placed in their league and I know Barry and Jamie will be looking to get back in the winners circle, I haven't helped their cause by taking some of the players they have developed into my squad but they are doing a fantastic job as is Mark Humphries with his 18’s last week was their first loss but with 4 of his team playing reserves Mark exceeded his expectations devel- oping our youth. Best of luck to all three sides Let the football begin, Dundo. Last weeks Results

See you down here soon, Aaron Oliver Ashfield East Perth Amateurs Last weekend we exited the cup having been beaten by current holders and 2015 premier league runners up Wembley Downs SC. Most will only read the result as 2 - 1 but what a game it was. Only those who were pitch side can tell the whole story and how lucky Wembley were to advance. The game started an edgy affair with neither team carving out any chances in the opening minutes. 20 minutes in Wembley were awarded a corner, EPFC cleared their lines but as we pushed out we were caught with a ball over the top that left their winger free and he volleyed home to make it 1 - 0. Things got worse for EPFC five minutes later when left back Paddy Dunne chal- lenged for the ball and the opposition player fell on him breaking his arm. That incident only inspired the boys and we took control of the game, as half time neared we created several chances only for their keeper to make three stunning saves to keep the score line to 1 - 0. The dressing room at half time was confident and we started the second half as we finished the first on top and creating chances. We finally got our reward on 80 minutes from defending a corner, the ball broke to Joe Dooley who released a pin point pass to second half substitute Ian Nolan, his intelligent run across the back line form left the right got him in behind the Wembley back line and hw finished first time past the onrushing keeper, 1 - 1 and fully deserved. EPFC went looking for the winner and should have converted at least one of their chances to win but Wembley sneaked a winner through deflected shot that bounced off two of our players and looped in. A cruel blow and not a good way to lose a match where honest cup football was clearly the winner of the day. The coaching staff and players are extremely proud of their efforts and will look to use this experience to push us onto league success. This week we travel to Caversham and continue our league aspirations. Respect All Fear None.
