Founded in 1962, the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) is a nonprofit organization whose NASCLA purpose is to promote best practices and license uniformity for HISTORY agencies that regulate the construction industry. By upholding dedication to the assistance of contractor licensing and enforcement agencies, trade associations, and members of the construction industry, NASCLA serves as a vital resource for its members and the contracting community.

The NASCLA Strategic Plan was developed and approved by the NASCLA Board of Directors in the fall OUR PLAN of 2017. Below are updates to the top four (4) priorities for this fiscal year.

UPDATES Examination and Licensure Comity

Licensing Efficiency and Streamlining of Reciprocity; and Opportunities to Reduce Jurisdictional Barriers for Licensing Between States; NASCLA Model Legislation Committee developed a Verification of License document which will be instrumental in determining the fields that will be required to make a national repository database successful from state to state.

MEMBERSHIP

NASCLA Delegate/State Member Funding Program; the program has been developed. Utilization of examination revenue stream will fund the travel policy/fund for delegates and Executive Directors. The first ever NASCLA Annual Mission was conducted in conjunction with the NASCLA Annual Strategic Planning Meeting in December 2019.

OUTREACH

Outreach Method to Address Skilled Workforce Training; The NASCLA Contractors Committee revamped and launched the second NASCLA Contractor Scholarship Program. Three (3) scholarship recipients were awarded a sum of money issued to the attending institution on behalf of the student, assigned a mentor from the NASCLA Contractors Committee and had the unique opportunity to participate in a virtual awards ceremony.

TECHNOLOGY

Establishment of a Technology Plan to Address Concerns With: Publications, Examinations; Licensing Process; Security; Copyright; Mobility; the NASCLA Technology Committee identified the need for a Nationwide Licensee Roster Database and is now collaborating with the NASCLA Model Legislation Committee to assist with the Model Legislation repository database project.

The NASCLA Contractor Scholarship The 3 NASCLA 2020 Contractor Scholarship Program Award Program is designed to help students Recipients were: pursue licenses, certificates and/or certifications in the construction industry preparing them for gainful employment.

The program was redesigned this year to provide a chance for three (3) recipients to be awarded up to $2,500 towards program tuition. The scholarship awards go as follows: 1st place winner will be awarded $2,500, 2nd place winner will be 1ST 2ND 3RD awarded $1,500 and the 3rd place winner will be awarded $1,000. The award includes tuition reimbursement, assigned Philip Christian Hunter Smith Gabriela Gonzalez mentor, and in lieu of the attending the NASCLA 2020 Annual Conference each recipient participated in a virtual awards Mississippi University of Texas A&M University, State University, Nebraska-Lincoln, Construction Science ceremony. OUR TEAM’S TRANSFORMATION

The purpose of the NASCLA Staff New Roles and Responsibilities Restructure was to continue to drive employee engagement, personal growth, and success. Angie Whitaker, NASCLA Executive Director, brought in an outside Human Resources Facilitator/Consultant expert to work hands on with our NASCLA Staff. The restructuring was based on a strength-based philosophy, matching individual strengths and talents with specific roles and responsibilities. By applying this philosophy and mindset together we were able to streamline processes, roles and responsibilities, cultivate culture changes and improve overall efficiency. This project was conducted in multiple phases over the course of four (4) months; October 2019 - January 2020.
