STANFORD’S Bradley Klahn has earned the Conference’s Freshman of the Year honors and ARIZONA’S Tad Berkowitz was named Coach of the Year. The awards are determined by a vote of the league’s coaches. Farah, a native of Cali, Colombia, becomes the first USC player to garner Pac-10 Singles Player of the Year accolades since 1994, and the sixth Trojan overall to earn the honor. The junior is the Conference’s highest-ranked singles player, currently holding the No. 8 spot on the ITA’s top-125. He has compiled a 26-6 overall record and was 12-3 in dual matches this sea- son. The junior has won at least 22 singles matches in each of his three seasons at USC. In January, Farah defeated the 2008 Pac-10 Player of the Year, Stanford’s Alex Clayton, to capture the Sherwood Cup Championship in Thousand, Oaks, Calif.

Nguyen downed Sanam Singh, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4, to give Southern California a 4-3 victory against Virginia for the Trojans’ third consecutive NCAA men’s tennis title May 24. They became the fi rst three-time defending champions since Stanford won four in a row from 1995 to 1998. “I remember watching Prakash Amritraj take off his shirt when we won the 2002 title,” Nguyen said. “I thought about doing it and then thought, ‘nah, let’s not do it.’” Seconds later he was tackled to the ground amid a wave of Trojans. “It was an incredible match,” Southern California coach Peter Smith said. “It all came down to the last match. How many teams win three in a row? These boys did it. This coaching staff did it.” Nguyen’s fi nal game featured a solid return game. He dived to save one shot and ended up getting the point. That led to the chip shot from the net that landed a few yards from Singh. “It was an amazing atmosphere,” Nguyen said. “It was unbelievably loud and it was hard to focus.
