Report To: The Chair and Members of the Council 27th May 2020, Item 15 Covid-19 Support Provided by the Comeback Centre Introduction / Background This report asks members whether they wish to make a donation to the Cortonwood Comeback Centre to support the work being done by the Centre for local people during the Covid-19 virus. Details The Cortonwood Comeback Centre is a volunteer centre which provides various facilities and services for local people. During the current Covid-19 virus the Centre is providing the following services: • Hot food deliveries for the elderly and vulnerable • Food bank referrals and food parcels • Shopping Service • Prescription collections • Emergency Hygiene Packs • Dog walking • Advice – Form filling, Benefits, Housing, Money etc • Befriending service • Please see attached poster. The Centre has advised it is currently assisting around 100 to 140 people per week, the vast majority of whom live within the parish area.

The Centre normally receives income from lettings, but due to the current Government restrictions the Centre has no lettings at present, so any assistance to help with the costs of providing the various, mainly, voluntary services, would be helpful.

Legislation and Budget The Parish Council can make a donation to any services it deems are in the interest of some or all of its inhabitants under Section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972. The parish council budget for donations for 2020/21 is £1,400. Of this, £200 has been awarded to date.

Proposals / Recommendations The parish council is asked to consider whether it wishes to make any donation to the Cortonwood Comeback Centre, under the Section 137 Local Government Act 1972 provisions.
