COLLEGE FOOTBALL AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL Lakewood transfer signs Opening day to play football at Chowan

BY TREVOR BAUKNIGHT [email protected] Lakewood High School run- ning back Desmond Wilson proved that earning a college scholarship is about more than a stat sheet, earning an aca- demic scholarship and signing to play football at Chowan Uni- versity in Murfreesboro, , during a ceremony with coaches, team- mates and family at Lakewood on Wednesday. Wilson, who WILSON transferred from Sumter High to Lakewood ahead of his senior season, said he didn't see a lot of playing time at Sumter and didn't put up big numbers for the Gators; but the soft-spoken student-athlete caught the eye of Chowan recruiters on film, and with his academic situa- tion in order, is ready to make the move to the next level.
