“He came, He saw, He conquered!” The entire DPS Numaligarh family waited with bated breath on 11October 2017 as it is on this morning that DPS Numaligarh bid adieu to Shri P. Padmanabhan , Managing Director ,Numaligarh Refinery Limited and Smt. Ambika Padmanabhan, First Lady, NRL, in the presence of distinguished guests from NRL. A short cultural programme was organized by the students to express their love and gratitude to Shri Padmanabhan, who has been a guiding source and inspiration to them. School HeadGirl, Shreya Shekhar and School HeadBoy, Riteek Aditya Kashyap Das' heart-warming speeches took everyone on a time travel to all the beautiful moments spent with the iconic figure. One of the beautiful moments of the programme was when Mrs. Ambika Padmanabhan spoke to the gathering and reminisced her good old days in her own school stressing the universal truth that 'school days are the best days of one's life' and so one should make the best of it. What followed next was the most awaited moment when Mr. Padmanabhan, like always, shared his words of wisdom coated with wit. In his most memorable speech, he took everyone down the memory lane only to land up in a pool of emotions. Holding on to his own emotions, he planted a sapling in the school garden thus reaching out to the students, once again, on the lines of environmental upkeeping. The Principal, Mrs. Anurekha Barkakoti’s, in her address, voiced the feelings and emotions of the entire school. She thanked him for all the initiative that he had taken in his capacity, for the growth and development of the school. She reiterated on his positive approach in solving different issues thereby becoming an exemplary figure for everyone. Wishing the couple health and happiness for their next innings, she hoped to have them in the school even in future ventures. INAUGURATION OF ATL

DPS Numaligarh achieved yet another feat on 30th October 2017 with the inauguration of the prestigious Atal Tinkering Laboratory, a Government of Initiative of Niti Ayog under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).The Atal Tinkering Laboratory was inaugurated by Shri Atul Bora, Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, UDD and Town and Country Planning, Government of , in the presence of Shri P. Padmanabhan , Managing Director ,Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Dr. M.O.Garg , Ex Director General CSIR and Professor at IIT Mumbai, Dr.Karuna Kalita , Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT and other dignitaries. The inauguration ceremony began with the felicitation of the guests followed by the lighting of the lamp and a short cultural programme. The Chief Guest, Shri. Atul Bora congratulated everyone associated with the school on such an achievement and looked forward to more such contributions by the school towards the welfare of the students' community. He gave away certificates to the winners of the Build -a thon competition which was organized within a workshop that was held to educate the students on the very concept of tinkering. He then proceeded to inaugurate the Atal Tinkering Laboratory and the exhibition wherein the exhibits of the Build -a-thon competition in the robotic section, 3D printing and electronics section were showcased by the participants. Students from neighbouring schools were also invited to be a part of the event. Shri P. Padmanabhan , Managing Director , NRL, applauded the initiative taken by the school and expressed that it is the need of the hour to cater to the scientific bent of mind in children for the development of the nation. The Principal, Smt. Anurekha Barkakoti welcomed everyone to this unique event and expressed her happiness and foresightedness in instilling scientific temperament among the students of not just DPS Numaliagrh but also the neighbouring schools. The objective and benefits of Atal Tinkering Laboratory to the students of the school and that of neighbouring schools was highlighted upon by ATL Convenor , DPS Numaligarh, Dr. Sangeeta Bharali Dutta . To foster creativity and scientific temper in students, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has established 500 Atal Tinkering Laboratories in schools that have been financially sponsored by the scheme itself. The main focus of this mission is for young children to get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) It is worth mentioning here that DPS Numaligarh is the only school amongst other DPS schools in North East to be the proud recipient of the ATL and also the only school in the district to benefit from the Niti Aayog.

VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK COMMEMORATED DPS Numaligarh, in collaboration with Numaligarh Refinery Limited, commemorated the Vigilance Awareness Week from 31st Oct to 4th Nov'17. Various competitions were conducted to generate awareness among the children, in particular and the society, in general. Extempore Speech Competition was conducted for classes VI-VIII, where the children spoke on the burning topic 'Corruption Free India'. A Group Poster Making Competition for classes IX-XII was also held to allow the artistic minds to express their views through their posters. All the posters created, spoke volumes of the thoughts that the young talents harness within their minds regarding the evils of corruptions and its ill effects on their lives. A talk show was also organised where Mrs Reeta Borbora, a noted advocate from Gauhati High Court, a Child Rights Activist and a renowned author, graced the occasion as the guest speaker. She generated the awareness among the children to imbibe the quality of acknowledging one's mistakes for it is then that one becomes aware of not repeating it. Further, she encouraged them to say 'sorry', for, such an act creates a conducive atmosphere that allows free flow of genuine feelings and forgiveness.

CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATED Children's favourite fun day of the year was celebrated on 14 November '17 with great fervor and fun. It was a day to cherish and remember our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. All the teachers put up an enthralling show that exhibited their love and warmth. The cultural programme started with a prayer followed by various other programmes such as an English choir, a fashion show on the traditional costumes of the North East, a dance and various other solo performances. Children enjoyed this wonderful and unforgettable day to the fullest.

One Nation Reading Together

DPS Numaligarh celebrated One Nation Reading Together on 24th November 2017 alongwith the whole nation. One Nation Reading Together is an annual event organised by the Scholastic (an American publishing house) where children in schools across the country spend 30 minutes (preferably at 12 noon) on the designated day, reading for fun and participating in other activities that celebrate reading as a pleasure and enriching experience. Students from Class IV to VIII assembled in the assembly area where the Principal addressed them and spoke about the significance of the festival and the benefits of reading following which they proceeded to the football ground and sat in circles to read together their favourite books.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

As the season of celebration, of joy and sharing extended its sway over all things around, DPS Numaligarh too, was embraced by its spell as they celebrated Christmas in a special assembly on 19th December'17. A special prayer marked the day followed by a musical drama depicting the birth of Jesus Christ in accompaniment with Carols signifying the glory of the Messiah.

JOY OF GIVING As a special gesture, in keeping tandem with last year, the teachers and students of DPS Numaligarh joyfully contributed to the celebration of the 'JOY OF GIVING' by gifting the support staff with blankets. What better time to express their 'thank you' than the special assembly on Christmas. While giving away the gifts, the Principal, Smt. Anurekha Barkakoti encouraged the children to give back to the society in whatever little way possible.

 In order to make aware of the State Anthem , its significance and history, ‘O Mur Apunar Dex’penned by Lakshminath Bezbaruah and attuned by Kamala Prasad Agarwala was introduced and made compulsory to sing twice a week in the school assembly- Tuesday and Thursday.

VISITORS DR. M.O. GARG Prof. Madhukar Omkarnath Garg, professor IIT Mumbai, Department of Chemical Engineering, visited DPS Numaligarh as a distinguished guest on the occasion of the inauguration of the Atal Tinkering Laboratory on the 30th of October'17. The very next day he interacted with the students of classes IX-XII wherein he encouraged the students to raise questions and think out of the box rather than being satisfied with conventional views. He discussed the basic scientific activities that occur in our everyday lives and urged the students to be observant and develop a high probing ability. The school looks forward to more such rewarding sessions by such a prolific personality.

RUPALEEM GOSWAMI The indomitable spirit and the zeal to beat against all odds is what mark the personality of Mrs. Rupaleem Goswami, to venture for and win the crown of Mrs. India Homemaker. Her maiden visit to DPS Numaligarh on 22nd November became a memorable one for all as she spoke her heart out about all that she had to give up only to achieve what many thought was impossible for her. Her motto, 'From Fat to Fit' was taken up as a mantra for a healthy living by many. The school wishes her all success in her next venture into the Mrs. World Homemaker Competition.

JUNALI CHETIA

Ms. Junali Chetia, known for her being resolute and high spirited, visited the school to interact with the students. She has been a Secretary to many of the high officials of NRL till her superannuation in October '17. Her grit and determination is something that she exemplifies. She urged the students to be strong willed and face the challenges of life with conviction. She motivated the students to hold on to their dream till they achieve it for there is no charm in life without overcoming hurdles and holding the winner's trophy.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

Smt. Anurekha Barkakoti , Principal, DPS Numaligarh, attended the two days Mentor’s Conclave held at Bangalore on 1st and 2nd December ’17. She also attended The Economic Times Education Leadership Summit held at Delhi on the 13th of September ’17.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Mrs. Namita Bora and Mrs. Kalavati Nathan attended the International Convention on Early Childhood Education organized by DPS Society at DPS Noida from 16th- 18th November ’17 for ECE trained teachers and administrators to share their experiences, reflections and initiatives taken with the other ECE practitioners and professionals.

SOCIAL SCIENCE WORKSHOP Ms. Sanghamitra Ray attended the Social Science workshop organized by Delhi Public School Society at Human Resource Development Centre , Dwarka , Delhi, for four days 19th -22nd December 2017. The session were thought provoking and highlighted on Social Science and its relevance in modern times , to incorporate visual resources to enrich learning, reflection on our objective of assessing , integrating Social Science as a great connector with its multi disciplinary approach and the Arctic and the Antarctic Region. The teacher delegates got an opportunity to meet the Polar Man of India , Mr. Rasik Ravindra and watch a wonderful video on the 30th Indian Expedition Antarctica.

Achievement:

Komal Dewan , Special Educator, Delhi Public School , Numaligarh was awarded with the Shri Baljit Shastri Award (Overall Excellence and Best in Human and Traditional Values) during her Convocation Ceremony held on 9 December 2017at Amity University, Noida.

'TECHBLITZ' - KAZIRANGA UNIVERSITY

A team of thirty-one students from Class XII (Science) along with three escort teachers namely Mr. Probin Likharu, Mr. V.K. Rajeev and Mr. Saranga Pani Hazarika visited the Kaziranga University to attend a workshop - Techblitz on 10th November 2017. This workshop opened the doors to Robotics, Ethical Hacking, AutoCAD, and Circuit Building. The students also participated in various scientific experiments under the guidance of experts where they learnt about workshop equipments like oscilloscope, Hydraulic machine, Logic gates along with different scientific measurement tools. This experience provided them with an exposure into the world of Robotics.

UNBOX TINKERING WORKSHOP 2017 Two teachers from DPS Numaligarh Mr. V.K. Rajeev and Mr. Saranga Pani Hazarika attended a five days long workshop on 'Unbox Tinkering' under Atal Innovation Mission launched by NITI Aayog , Govt. of India with Intel and IBM at Kendriya Vidyalaya Maligaon , Guwahati from 13th to 17th November 2017. The objective of the workshop was Capacity Building for the facilitators of Atal Tinkering Labs in respective schools. The workshop was based on certain modules viz. Digital Literacy, Ideation, Design Thinking, Computational Thinking and Physical Computing. The participant teachers came back with useful resources related to playing a required role as facilitator with proper strategies and required skills.

TISS Tata Institute of Social Sciences, an institute offering a number of courses after 10+2, held a session in the school premises on 21st December '17 to enrich the students of classes XI and XII regarding the various career choices that they can make after passing class 12. Sri Anupam Bordoloi, representing TISS informed the students about the courses on Media and Entertainment, Graphics and Animation, Multimedia, Journalism, Radio Production among others offered by the institute. QUIZ COMPETITION The Election Commission of India The Election Commission of India, a true embodiment of the country's democratic structure organized a quiz competition for students aged 14-18 at four different levels- Inter-School, District, State and National. Sarfaraz Nawaz Hussain from Class XII-Humanities and Vishal Choudhury from Class XI-Humanities, Delhi Public School Numaligarh, participated in the competition and successfully cleared the first three levels making them eligible to represent Assam at the National level to be held in New Delhi in January. They were accompanied by Mr. Pranab Singh. The Inter- School round witnessed 7 teams comprising of 2 members each, organized by the Bokakhat Election Officer. It was a close contest as three teams were tied on 20 points each. The tie breaker was a buzzer question, where Sarfaraz and Vishal managed to answer correctly and subsequently qualify for the district level. On 30th of November the district level competition was held at Natya Mandir, Bokakhat. This level comprised of 6 teams from different schools, within the Bokakhat Election District. The quiz was a written round with 50 questions where DPS Numaligarh topped and qualified for the State level. The State level competition was held on 18th December at the District Library, Guwahati. Team DPSN were up against 50 best teams, each representing their respective Election District. There were two preliminary rounds where they finished first in the first preliminary round and qualified for the top 20. In the second preliminary round, which was the state round, they managed to find a place in the Top 6. The last round had 5 rounds within itself. Till the end of the third round, team DPSN was trailing to a school from Nagaon district, but managed to establish a lead in the fourth round. The tide completely turned in their favour in the last round- the buzzer round, where they established a huge lead to end up as champions of the state level. The schools wishes all luck to Sarfaraz and Vishal and hopes that they bring accolades to school and the state of Assam by emerging winners at the national level. Build-A-Thon Robotics Cup 2017-18 On 11thand 12th December 2017, a group of eight students from DPS Numaligarh, namely Gaurav Gangwal Jain, Nabanshu Neer Gogoi and Mayukh Dipta Bora from class VIII, Tanishq Goswami and Shubham Chakravarty from class IX, Saptarshi Choudhury, Mehul Todi, Swapnajyoti Das from class XI-Science, participated in the North-East Regional level Build-A- Thon Robotics Cup 2017-18,organised at Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati. On the first day the three teams from DPSN attended a workshop on Robotics and on the following day they were made to construct and run a robot practically. They had to assemble the chassis parts of their robot, do all the complex wiring,write and upload the codes to the Arduino Uno microcontroller all by themselves. Out of a total of 21 participating teams, two teams comprising Saptarshi Choudhury, Mehul Todi and Swapnajyoti Das from DPSN were able to bag the 2nd prize for the Rescue Game round and Tanishq Goswami and Shubham Chakravarty were able to bag the prize for best presentation. The teams will now compete at the national level to be held at Goa in January '18. SMTE-2017 Delhi Public School Society, in collaboration with Science Olympiad foundation conducts DPS Science and Mathematics Talent Examination (SMTE), a tailor-made programme, exclusively for all the students of class IX studying in all the Delhi Public Schools across the country. This year, Level-1 SMTE was conducted on 13th November ’17. Two students namely Ankita Bora from Class IX-A and Agnibh Dutta from class IX-B were qualified for the Level-2 examination which was held in DPS Ranchi on 17th December ’17. Ms. Madhusmita Bezbaruah escorted the students to Ranchi. Achievement in sports  Ankrit Sikia of Class XII from DPS Numaligarh participated in the recently concluded CBSE Inter School Games and Sports Competition 2017 at Allons Public School, Raipur (Chattishgarh) and bagged the gold medal in Javelin Throw in the CBSE National Athletic Championship beating 28 other participants in the under 19 category from all over the country including the seven Gulf countries. He also bagged the fifth position in a Shot Put event. The event was held from 20th November to 24th November 2017.

 Four students from DPS Numaligarh namely Hilo K. Sumi (Class XI),Kete Nyuso(Class XI), Ankrit Saikia (Class XII) and Parthiv Sutradhar (Class X) participated in the Inter DPS International Athletic Meet 2017, organized by DPS Meerut from 24th -26th November 2017. Total 59 schools participated in this Meet. It was a nail biting competition for all the participating schools as some of the athletes participated in this Meet were from the international stature. Our school students competed in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m,long jump, shot put and 4x 400m relay where our students had a tough fight by qualifying for the final rounds in all events and bagged the gold medal in the 4x 400m relay among forty -three Delhi Public Schools of the country and abroad. In the same event, Ankrit Saikia won the 3rd position with a bronze medal in Shot Put competing among 35 participants of Delhi Public Schools all over the country and abroad.

 Ankrit Saikia(Class XII) and Anwesha Goswami (Class XII)participated in the Inter CBSE Cluster –II Athletic Meet 2017-2018 at DPS Sambalpur ,Orissa from 3rd October to 5th October 2017. Ankrit Saikia bagged the gold medal in Javelin Throw and Shot Put Throw whereas Anwesha Goswami won the 3rd position with a bronze medal bringing accolade to the school.  An Inter CBSE Zonal Taekwondo Championship 2017-2018 (Girls and Boys) was held at Saint Vivekananda Senior Secondary Public School, Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) , Kanpur from 14th – 16th October 2017. Farewell The morning of 20th December, 2017 saw young ladies and gentlemen of the batch of 2017-18 walking into the school premises all decked up and dressed like never before. The guests for the day were welcomed with tokens, as in handmade floral bracelets for the ladies and floral brooches for the gentlemen. Students of class 11 of Delhi Public School Numaligarh along with their teachers and staff, were gathered to bid farewell to the outgoing class XII batch. The day was a fiesta devoted to the years spent together with friends and teachers to reminisce the joyous moments. The theme of the valedictory ceremony was tropical, with a lot of floral arrangement and bright hues. The ceremony began with a prayer and the lighting of the lamp followed by dance and music. The highlight of the day was Kete Nyusou's exemplary showcase of beat-boxing which left everyone awestruck and standing up from their seats as it ended. The Principal, Smt. Anurekha Barkakoti's address to the outgoing batch was a very motivational and empowering one and geared everyone up for the rest of the event. Thereafter, a few of the teachers spoke and took everyone down the memory lane. The Head Girl, Shreya Shekhar, the Head Boy, Riteek Aditya Kashyap Das and a series of students like Teresa Louis, Kaushik Patwari, Anwesha Goswami, Chadoang R. Sangma, Snigdha Saikia, Ayush Nimodia and several others spoke their hearts out, recalling their good old days in the junior school and their world of memories woven in the senior school. The special guests for the day were showered with thoughtful one-liners attached to their gifts alongwith their respectively titled sashes. It was as if to overcome the rollercoaster of emotions that a marvelous cake was cut to embrace the new journey that awaits to unfold before the children, followed by a scrumptious lunch. As a huge element of surprise to the students, they were disclosed to a Photo Booth, especially made keeping in mind the “hip” trends of today. It is hoped that this Photo Booth may have made it a little less difficult for them as they parted ways, for, as they say, “We keep this love… in a photograph”.

JUNIOR WING COMPETITIONS SHOW AND TELL COMPETITION

A Show and Tell Competition was held on 11 October 2017 for the students of Class I.The students brought a number of different objects like book, globe, toys, carton characters , pencil etc. to describe it with proper voice modulation and pronunciation.

Quiz Competition

A Quiz Competition was conducted for the students of Classes II and III on 25 October 2017.The contestants racked their brain over answering the questions volleyed by the quiz masters.The questions for the contestants came from a variety of subjects – English, Civics, Science , Maths. The team Boost emerged as the winner of the competition followed by team Bournvita and Complan. Kudos to all the winners! STORY NARRATION COMPETITION

An Inter Class Story Narration Competition was held for the students of Classes I, II and III in the month of November. The participants chose the story of their own choice and presented it with excellent intonation and expression. Students narrated the stories and presented it with suitable props. The competition helped them to enhance their confidence in using English language and transporting the audience to a land of fantasy.
