47 PAGE 2 How often do I stand on my “balcony” and look out over the land here in Tresmeer, and very often in the quiet times, thoughts appear in my head. one like the thought below. Stop and think about it for a while. How often do you water your plants and they survive but when a shower falls they lift up and really look refreshed. Just like ourselves, if we don’t get refreshed, how can we give off our best?

Sorry for those of you not receiving this early, the dreaded flue got me, and to be honest, I just haven't had the energy or inclination to get going till now. I do love doing this publication every month thou, but every month it is the same let down, when it comes to printing. 4 Days here in the shop pressing buttons, filing paper, loading ink cartridges. So if you know of an easier way let me know. Laser, inkjet, photocopier?

Right welcome to another month Hopefully my hubby will get into hospital this month, and finally have his knee operated on, but we will wait and see? My VW Caravelle has finally called it a day, I must admit I feel a little sad to say good bye. It has been a brilliant workhorse. So I have been looking for a new vehicle , which I have found at last. It will do for a while until I can find my dream Triumph Vitesse!

I am still feeding my birds here at the shop, as the weather still slips in the odd cold day. I have been pleased to have regular visits from a pair of Yellow Hammers. Such vibrant colours. A pair of Wood Pigeons, 2 pairs of Collared Doves, a pair of Blackbirds and numerous other delights flitter around outside. Well enjoy April everyone. Soon be May and after printing this edition I will get onto that one….Got anything to include , let me have it as soon as possible. God Bless

Thought for the month Man made watering is no contest with heavenly watering!

PAGE 3 46 TRESMEER AGRICULTURAL SHOW Connecting With Cornwall: Part 1 - How it Began and The Obby Oss Next meeting At I have lived in Cornwall for many years now. It is true that I have always loved it here, The Wilsey Down Hotel but until the passing of my dear brother, I had never really seen it. When my world was turned upside down, I found myself soul searching and “walking the line” on the cliffs and beaches of North Cornwall. I didn’t even know why I was drawn there, I just Thursday 3rd May went, and I walked. 7.30pm I feel that Cornwall healed me and that grief gave me a gift. And as strange as it may Please note changed date sound, Cornwall kept me safe during a very difficult time. It began on the rugged From 26th April to 3rd May cliffs, but as the pain grew more bearable, I also opened my eyes to the rest of Corn- wall – and what a sight it is! Over 18 months has passed now, and grief changes shape, but I still feel the need for my Cornish Adventures. It is part of my life now to ex- plore, and wonder and take photos. In my heart my brother travels with me, and I feel incredibly lucky to live here.

So, as Spring makes an appearance, it’s Obby Oss Time. I had heard of this event, but attending had never occurred to me. But last year, I simply had to go! It was unfor- gettable, and I hope to visit many more times.

Padstow is immensely proud of the Obby Oss, and rightly so. I believe it is the oldest British festival that still takes place. It is old, very old, with roots going back to Pagan times. Around 30,000 people pack into , and it is a sight to behold.

Accompanied by drums, an ancient May song rings through the town from early morn- ing to sundown, it is beautiful and strangely hypnotic. I know I am not alone in that for whatever reason, it stirs something very deep in the soul. Glancing round the crowds packed into the narrow streets, eyes are lit up, smiles are broad, and yes you can see a few eyes welled up. It is not often these days that you can see young and old, of many generations all joined together in such a wonderful celebration of life, and love, and family, and yes, let’s not forget, Cornwall. Perhaps it is that uniting of the human spirit that brings emotion to the fore, perhaps it doesn’t really matter!

All that aside, it is a great fun day. The streets are covered in flags and flowers, and a beautiful May pole is found in the square. Half of the town dresses in red and white, half in red and blue. They make their way through the town with their respective Obby Oss (red is original, blue is the Peace Oss introduced after World War 1). They whirl and twirl and sing and dance throughout the day.

This year, the Obby Oss takes place on Tuesday 1st May. If you’ve never been, why not this year… life is short! Do not take your car into town. Go early. And to add something special - Park in Rock and take the ferry across – perfect! 45 PAGE 4 A little shop with a big impact on the community!
