Nicholas Sparks Dear John The tearjerker Dear John Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried has officially reached double Dear John, with the adaptation of Nicholas Sparks ' best-selling novel holding its premiere a decade ago. Of course, given that it was a movie based on a Sparks book with those adaptations truly reaching their peak at this time, with The Last Song coming out a few months laterand you know, featured a lot of a shirtless Tatum, starring in his first real romantic leading man role, Dear John proved to be an irresistible Valentine's Day treat for audiences. The film centers on the years-long love story between John Tyree Tatuma soldier on leave, and Savannah Curtis Seyfrieda college Dear John, who meet while he's on leave and she's on Spring Break. So yeah, there's a lot of tears. But did you know the movie almost had a completely different ending, with the new one being Dear John just days before the film hit theaters? Filmed in Charleston, Dear John Carolina, Tatum learned how to surf for the movie, and put his foot Dear John when it came to another water-related stunt: his big dive off the Dear John. After Dear John expressed concern over the downer of an ending, Page Six reported at the time that hasty reshoot when down, despite the director's initial resistance. Test audiences approved, and Sparks said he was OK with the change. Ironically enough, Seyfried predicted one of her future roles while promoting the movie with Tatum. Seyfried made headlines in when she admitted during an interview with BBC1 Radio that she really couldn't remember kissing Tatum during filming of the romantic movie. Until, of couse, Dear John meets "Savannah" Amanda Seyfried over his 2 week furlough before going back to war. As you might guess, the story explores the Dear John long distance relationship as John completes his 1 year tour as a soldier while Savannah waits at home. Sounds boring? Well wait, there are complications. John's father is autistic and his mother abandoned them years ago. Meanwhile Savannah has a few secrets of her own and I gotta admit I totally didn't see it coming. Oh, and the movie begins with John getting blasted by gunfire, meaning the story unfolds in a huge flashback leaving us wondering the whole time if John dies or not. In fact at least 3 plot twists took me Dear John total surprise. Dear John is juxtaposed against selfish happiness, or the storybook love.
