2 AZIMUTH The HUMMER Club, Inc. is a non-profit mutual benefit corporation organized under the California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law. We are a national organization dedicated to promoting the safe use of the HUMMER in a family oriented atmosphere. We emphasize responsi- ble four-wheeling and are serious about safety and environmentally correct off-roading. We encourage our members to be active in land use advocacy and community service and to use both vehicles and land resources safely along the guide- lines set forth by Tread Lightly! and the United Four Wheel Drive Association. Both regional and national events run by member volunteers are sponsored throughout the year where members can drive trails with levels of difficulty ranging from moderate to extreme. These events, our website and the publication of a quarterly mag- azine also offer an opportunity for exchange of information to develop a better understanding of the Photo: Hal Dilworth HUMMER vehicle and its safe use. As the only recognized national HUMMER orga- nization, the Club enjoys excellent relationships with AM General and HUMMER/ Corporation and frequently has factory technicians and parts support at major events. The Club welcomes all HUMMER vehicles. It is a strong, established organization that will only get better with your help. Join in, support the HUMMER Club. With your participation, the Club will continue to grow for the benefit of HUMMER owners. H

He started Hummer Affair, an Ultimate Luxury Safari 3 to 7 day Hummer driving experience in 1998, which was later renamed Unique Adventures and not limited to Hummers. He has been a Hummer Club member since 1999. Marc also started Sedona Offroad Adventures, a daily Hummer excursion business in 2001, and formed Hummer Storm Racing Team in 2005. He won SNORE championship in H1 2006 and currently owns fourteen H1’s and one H2. Marc has served as coordinator for several events a year for the club for many years, including the Moab event. Marc’s main goal is to work with other members to develop more events west of the Mississippi. By making events more fun and affordable, he believes the club should be able to attract a larger share of the many Hummer owners in the southwest into the club. If people get excited about events they will tell their friends and want to participate more often. For an off-road club to be relevant it needs to get more people out on the trails, and in order for our club to do that, he believes Photos Above By Hal Dilworth we need events that are a reasonable driving distance from their homes.

AZIMUTH 11 12 AZIMUTH Manny (being 400+ miles way) doesn’t get a chance to play here very often and decided to push the envelope a little. As I exited the park office, I noticed Manny in a precarious position and went over to lend a hand. No sooner had I arrived than the truck went over, landing on its roof. It should be mentioned that Manny has a custom fabricated roll cage in his truck for just such mishaps and that he was securely belted into the vehicle. The pictures show the rest of the story**. We recovered the vehicle and had it safely back on the trails Saturday. Special thanks to the techs from AM General for all their hard work Friday evening to get Manny’s truck back on the trails. This stunt earned Manny lifetime membership into the “idiot group” IMHO.

Saturday took things up a notch for all groups. Much of the day was spent in the rock gardens and newly created mud pits from an overnight thunderstorm. The dry dusty trails from Friday were finally wet. We had our BBQ and awards later that night. The cov- eted “mini tow strap awards” went out to of course Manny and two others. Jerry Moeller got his new pair of baby socks for car- nage on his H1. Jesse Salinas and George “Traffic-Vest” Yankay received honorary mention for trailside assistance. The Welch’s and the Lozupone’s were in a close competition for the most family members attending.

I’d like to thank my trail staff for their help. Without them, we could never have this much fun: Trey Dieterich, Ken Gander, Dave Yeck and Len (chainsaw) Witt. I’d also like to thank Manny MacMillan for being a good sport and letting us all pick on him. He and Chris Blood always supply us with good pictures and entertainment. Lastly, thanks to AM General (John and Vinnie) for support- ing the event and keeping the trucks in tip-top shape (mechanically at least) See you next year! - Scott Freeman H

We gathered for a raffle and gave away various off-road items from Rubberduck 4x4, H-One Motorsport USA, and Predator Motorsports —from t-shirts to gift certificates for parts. After the evening fun, we woke, had an excellent breakfast and then went out to meet the trucks again, which we had neatly lined up behind the resort at the base of the ski slopes. The resort sales team piled into their UTV and wore little utility helmets that, according to my son, made them look like lego characters. When they reached the top they would signal for each truck to head up and we were first. They would wait to send the next to allow for enough time in between each truck. The terrain on the slopes was rocky and steep. I was expecting something more tame — gradual hills of green over grown grass rather than rocks that popped and splintered as we tore up the side of the mountain. We passed the signs that named each ski trail and this reminded me that we were actually going the wrong way up Sunday River! When we reached the summit, we parked and got a sweet photo of the kids sitting in a chair lift seat that hung there, still for the season. What a fantastic view! The beauty of the moment made the whole experience surreal. The entire gang gathered for a group photo and patted themselves on the back for making it to the top, a more challenging trip than the rest had expected according to my informal poll. All in all, folks seemed to have a blast and we even got time in at the pool before we left for home. Thanks to all the folks who attended and made the weekend what it was, an event to be remembered and definitely repeated next summer! H
