This so called “benefit” is going to cover the legal costs for taking the Serious Fraud Office to court and you have contributed to it. Where would we be as a country if everyone behaved like you, if everyone went around taking the government to court? Hmm! No one would have fought the Nazis in World War Two, that is where we would be. -

Then came the Comedy Store and Jongleurs and getting bottled off ta The unneT l, and then a regular slot on Radio 4′s Loose Ends, where he met Joseph Heller, Christopher Lee and Gary Glitter. He did 4 series of ‘The aM rk Steel Solution’, one for Radio 5 and the others on Radio 4, and a radio series about cricket, which provoked a whole page of fury in the Daily Express. He presented three series of a sports programme called ‘Extra Time’ which he was very proud of, especially as it went out on Tuesday nights on Radio 5 to possibly no listeners whatsoever. -

Standing with the Women of Burma to End Rape and Sexual Violence
110 high profile women stand with the women of Burma to end rape and sexual violence Standing with the women of Burma to end rape and sexual No. 1 violence July 2010 www.burmacampaign.org.uk 110 high profile women stand with the women of Burma to end rape and sexual violence 110 high profile women, including Dame Judi Dench, Annie Lennox, Jo Brand, Gillian Anderson, Imelda Staunton, Julie Walters and Zoë Wanamaker, are standing with the women of Burma to end rape and sexual violence. In the pledge the high profile women, who also include activists and politicians, have vowed to support: • An investigation into rape and sexual violence by the Burmese military against ethnic women and girls. • An end to impunity for rape and other forms of sexual violence in Burma. • Support for victims. • The inclusion of women at every political level in Burma including the peace negotiations between the Burmese government and the ethnic armed political groups. • Burma’s Rape Law to be in line with international human rights standards to outlaw rape in marriage. Rape and sexual violence by the Burmese army • The use of rape and sexual violence by Burma’s armed forces is ongoing with impunity and reports of rape have increased over the last years. • Although winning a landslide victory in national elections in November 2015, the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, will not have control over the Burmese army when it takes office in April 2016. Therefore, there is a possibility that army rape will continue even with the new NLD-led government in place. -

Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Arts › Features Reviews Books Review: Punt and Dennis – Ploughing on Regardless Hilarious radio duo Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt take to stage as Katy Sandalls reviews Monday 17 February 2014 Photo courtesy of Punt and Dennis ★★★★☆ As a perennial fan of Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt’s inputs on the BBC Radio 4 programme The Now Show, the prospect of seeing them live on stage promised to be a treat – and it didn’t disappoint. Indeed, sat in the majestic setting of the York Grand Opera House, at times it felt like I was at a recording of the radio show with Punt producing his usual masterful set ups for Dennis to later pick up and run with. And run he did, with topics ranging from the TV listings experience to our obsession with the snow the show touched upon every possible avenue. One thing that did come across, lost to a radio audience, was Dennis’ mastery of visual comedy. A particular favourite being his take on the giving out of buns in Denmark to celebrate the signing of the treaty of Rome. That was the first and probably the last time I will see a man old enough to be my father walk in circles around a stage with the flap of jacket lifted up showing the audience his “beautiful buns”. Punt’s earlier cynical comment really summed this up well; the pair are indeed “wasted on the radio”. -

For 30 years he has ruled the world of retail fashion – bringing the high street to the catwalk and the catwalk to the high street – but after a damaging public inquiry, his image is tarnished. To save his reputation, he decides to bounce back with a highly publicized and extravagant party celebrating his 60th birthday on the Greek island of Mykonos. A satire on the grotesque inequality of wealth in the fashion industry, the film sees McCreadie’s rise and fall through the eyes of his biographer, Nick (David Mitchell).
