PURPOSEFUL PEER SUPPORT A free weekly support group at the AID Drop-In Center at 109 S. Jefferson in Woodstock, IL is for any McHenry County adult who is recovering from a mental illness. MUSIC THERAPY FOR PERSON LIVING WITH MOVEMENT DISORDERS "We Feel the Beat" MUSIC THERAPY FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH MOVEMENT DISORDERS Independence Health & Therapy support group utilizes music therapy for persons living with neurological and/or movement disorders, those in recovery from stroke or injury and those with mild cognitive decline. RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL The Recovery International program provides weekly peer-led self-help meetings. The Recovery International method is a system of cognitive behavioral techniques developed by neuropsychiatrist , MD, used to change thoughts and behaviors; changes in attitudes and beliefs follow. NORTHWEST TREATMENT ASSOCIATES Teen Transgender Therapy Group meets twice a month on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Northwest Treatment Associates, 645 McHenry Avenue in Woodstock. This is an open group that accepts new participants on an ongoing basis. This group will provide a safe place for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and questioning teens to explore issues of sexual orientation and gender identity and gain acceptance and peer support. 12/2/2019 RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL FOR VETERANS Recovery International and TLS Veterans are launching a new program to teach veterans tools for coping with symptoms related to PTSD, , and anger. Veterans are invited to drop in by the TLS Veterans building at 5330 W Elm Street in McHenry on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm to learn more about the Recovery Method. THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING Please join Gary of Cherry Hill Counseling the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00 pm to meet with others to discuss grieving and other topics that therapeutic counseling support services can provide support for. RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUP The Recovery Group at The Other Side in Crystal Lake is designed to provide a starting point for people struggling with addiction in their family. This group meets every Tuesday night at 7pm. The Recovery Group is open to anyone who has been effected by substance abuse or addiction. The attendants range from family, friends and loved ones of people suffering from addiction to people struggling with addiction themselves as well as people in various stages of recovery, 2 weeks to 15 years sober. THE JOURNEY OF MEMORY LOSS Please join Claudia Aquilina the 1st Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm to meet with others to discuss memory loss and how it affects us. BEST START FOR FAMILIES PARENTING GROUP – MCHENRY Best Start for Families Parenting Group is a collaboration between Pioneer Center for Human Services and McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition to provide parenting support and education to expectant parents/parents of babies born substance exposed. Best Start for Families Parenting Group follows the Best Start for Families curriculum which is based on the International Child/Parenting Development Program. Capacity for each group is 12 participants and is limited to McHenry County Residents. It is a 16 session program held 5-6:30 PM Thursdays at Pioneer Center, 3941 Dayton, McHenry, IL. Light refreshments and childcare for children 1 year-old and older will be available during each session, parents are welcome to bring infants to the parent sessions. This group was designed for those that have lost a loved one to a criminal act. We will be focusing on the personal journey with grief in a safe and supportive environment. This is an opportunity to meet with others survivors in a group setting who are experiencing similar trauma. The support group is free and open to the community. SWK5600 Mental Illness and Substance Abuse: Social Work Practice with Co-occurring Disordered Clients (4) Upon successful completion of this course, a letter of confirmation will be sent to the Illinois Certification Board (ICB) indicating fulfillment of the education requirements for CODP I. Part of this course will include guiding the student in documenting the required work and supervision hours.
