INVC, Mysore/ Delhi, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, scion of the erstwhile Mysore royal family, died of a massive cardiac arrest at a private hospital at on Tuesday. Wodeyar, 60, was brought in a 'non-responsive' state and attempts to revive him did not succeed, sources at Vikram Hospital said. Wodeyar was only recently elected as President of State Cricket Association in a hotly contested election. He was the son of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, the last ruling Maharaja of Mysore and his second wife, Tripura Sundari Ammani Avaru. In 1974, he succeeded his father as the head of the family, although by this time the title was ceremonial. He was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Mysore Parliamentary Constituency four times as a candidate of Indian National Congress and later lost twice, once as a BJP candidate and recently as a Congress party candidate. He was the richest candidate whenever he stood for and won elections. An acknowledged fashion designer, he promoted Mysore silk under the brand of Royal Mysore Silk. He is survived by his wife Maharani Pramoda Devi Avaru, who hails from the Bettada Kote Ursu family of the erstwhile of Mysore.
