Two Years Later: We Are Still Troy Davis April 10th at 7:30 pm First United Methodist Church, Fireside Room 1838 SW Jefferson St, Portland

On Thursday April 10th Jen Marlowe, co-author of I Am Troy Davis, and Troy's sister, Kimberly Davis, will lead a discussion about the book, Troy’s case, and the impact Troy's struggle has had on those still fighting for justice and an end to the death penalty in Oregon.

Troy was executed in 2011, despite overwhelming evidence pointing to his innocence. Troy worked tirelessly while on death row, not only to prove his innocence, but to abolish the death penalty for those who would come after him and to expose a system that fails to protect the innocent.

Other participants include:

• Dr. Audrey Terrell, president of the NAACP Portland Chapter • Frank Thompson, former Superintendent of Oregon Penitentiary • Naseem Rakha, author of ‘The Crying Tree” • Tony Funchess, First Vice-President of NAACP Portland Chapter

Book signing will follow. Event free and open to the public.

On September 21, 2011 Troy Anthony Davis was put to death by the state of . Davis’ execution was protested by hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, and Pope Benedict XVI, President , and 51 members of Congress all appealed for clemency. How did one man capture the world’s imagination, and become the iconic face for the campaign to end the death penalty?

I Am Troy Davis, coauthored by Jen Marlowe and Davis’ sister Martina Davis-Correia, tells the intimate story of an ordinary man caught up in an inexorable tragedy. From his childhood in racially- charged Savannah; to the confused events that led to the 1989 shooting of a police officer; to Davis’ sudden arrest, conviction, and two-decade fight to prove his innocence; I Am Troy Davis takes us inside a broken legal system where life and death hangs in the ! Author Jen Marlowe and Kimberly Davis balance. It is also an inspiring testament to the unbreakable bond of family, to the resilience of love, and that even when you reach the end of justice, voices from across the world will rise together in chorus and proclaim, “I am Troy Davis”, I stand with you.

Co-sponsored by Portland Group 48, Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (OADP), and Kol Shalom Community for Humanistic Judaism.
