Organized by Revolution 91.7, a stu- dent-run radio station on the WKU campus, the event has sponsorship from Age of Reason Tattoo and Art Gallery, Great Escape Records and Comics, Campus Cards and Games and Musician’s Pro, which supplied the equipment and ran the sound sys- tem with great professionalism. Participating bands paid a submission fee of $20 and the winning band received $250, Artist of the Week recognition on Revolution 91.7 (Oct. 15-Oct. 21) and an opening spot for Mayhem 2013. I was frankly surprised and honored to be asked to judge a Battle of the Bands but agreed, wondering if I would be able to judge given that I have not been to or played in a Battle of the Bands since the 1970s. I soon found that I need not have worried and ended up having a wonderful time. Muggle Quidditch has seen a rise in recent years all over the world, including an exhibition at the London Olympics and the first Kentucky Cup in Lexington last summer. More recently, the first official local school club, South Warren Quidditch, was formed by Evan Poff. “About a year ago, a friend of mine held a Harry Potter-themed party at his house, where one of the activities was a game of Quidditch. We all had fun with that, but there were some flaws with its design that I wished had been better. Shortly afterward, I randomly felt like look- ing up Quidditch on the Internet to see if someone had a good solution to any of those issues. That’s when I came across the International Quidditch Association’s website. I was instantly enthralled with the sport. We have some people who are very athletic, and we have others who haven’t played a sport before.
