I simply left my stitches on one long needle and started the applied i-cord with another needle.

The stitches may need a little shimmy so you can work the i-cord through the front opening.

APPLIED I-CORD CAST OFF With 3.5mm needle, work applied i-cord cast off starting at back of the neck (where you have one stitch on a stitch holder, marked with x on the diagram). Follow the direction of red arrows for the cast off:

Using two strands of Graphite, cast on 3 stitches. Slip all 3 to left needle. With RS facing: Row 1: k2, knit one from the icord and one back of the neck stitch together - 3sts, slip all 3 onto left needle.

Row 2: k2, slip 1, yo, pick up and knit one stitch from selvedge edge, pass yo and slipped stitch over. - 3 sts. Slip all 3 onto left needle. Handy video here.

If you have live stitches on the front bottom edge: k2, slip 1, yo, knit one live stitch pass yo and slipped stitch over. - 3 sts. Slip all 3 onto left needle.

Repeat along the whole edge following the cast of direction, as per the red arrows on the diagram.

TO FINISH Weave in your ends. Remember, to minimise bleeding, wash your project in cold water with a drop of mild detergent (I use a basic washing up liquid) and lay your poncho flat to dry.
