Boston Trips 2011 Taking part in a trip during Lasell Laser Welcome Weekend is a way to reconnect with other students you may have met at Laser Link Orientation, meet new friends if you missed any of the summer programs, and to get to know our faculty, staff members, and current student leaders. Each trip is led by a faculty or staff member and gives you the chance to meet them outside the classroom before you begin classes. All trips depart from the Campus Center at the time indicated. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your trip is scheduled to leave. Saturday, September 3, 2011 9:00 A.M. New England Aquarium Founded in 1969, the New England Aquarium is a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation. The Aquarium is one of the premier visitor attractions in Boston, with over 1.3 million visitors a year, and a major public education resource. This program is open to ALL STUDENTS and costs $10 per person. You will only need additional money for lunch. 9:30 A.M. Fenway Park Tour This trip provides fans with a behind-the-scenes look at America’s most beloved ballpark. Visit the park where the Babe pitched, The Kid hit, Yaz dazzled, and Ortiz still thrills young fans today. Soak up the rich history; hear the echoes of the past. Touch the Green Monster, imagine being one of the “Knights of the Keyboard” as you see the view from the Press Box, and visit the State Street Pavilion Club before strolling around Fenway Park. Boston Trolley Tour For over 30 years, Old Town Trolley Tours has provided sightseeing tours highlighting the best of Boston. Hop aboard one of the trolleys and you'll experience Transportainment , a delightful combination of transportation and entertainment. The friendly conductors narrate the tour with a fascinating and fun mix of trivia and humorous stories. This program is open to ALL STUDENTS and costs $10 per person. You will only need additional money for lunch. Boston Trips 2011 Sunday, September 4, 2011 9:30 A.M. Gaining Ground Farm Service Trip Support an amazing local farm who donates all of their produce to local hunger relief organizations. Let the staff at the Center for Community-Based Learning lead you on an outdoor service experience in the nearby community of Concord, MA where you will assist with various tasks around the farm including weeding, mulching, harvesting, and other maintenance projects. Your hard work will provide nutritious food for those who are hungry. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. This trip is open to ALL STUDENTS and THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE. 9:30 A.M. American Textile History Museum Join the fashion department to the “American Textile History Museum”. The museum is located in Lowell, MA which in the 19 th and early 20 th century was central to the New England textile industry. The museum will be an educational and enjoyable trip. The interactive exhibits will show you the uses of textiles in both fashion and other industries. Exhibits document pre-industrial-revolution as well as industrial era machinery of the woolen, cotton, flax and silk industries in New England. 19 th and 20 th century historic garments from the museum’s preservation collection are on display along with modern eco friendly choices. The main exhibit, “Textile Revolution: An Exploration through Space and Time”, displays the uses of textiles in cars, planes, aero-space and other specialized industries. This outing is open to ALL STUDENTS, but FASHION students are encouraged to attend. The cost for this trip is $5 per person. You will only need additional money for lunch. 10:00 A.M. Boston Duck Tour Boston Duck Tours are like no other. The fun begins as soon as you board your “DUCK”, an authentic, renovated World War II amphibious landing vehicle. First, you’ll be greeted by one of the legendary tour ConDUCKtors, who’ll be narrating your tour. Then you’re off on a journey like you’ve never had before. You’ll cruise by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts, from the golden-domed State House to Bunker Hill and the TD Banknorth Garden, Boston Common and Copley Square to the Big Dig, Government Center to fashionable Newbury Street, Quincy Market to the Prudential Tower, and more. And, as the best of Boston unfolds before your eyes, your ConDUCKtor will be giving you lots of little known facts and interesting insights about our unique and wonderful city. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, there’s more. Museum of Fine Arts With approximately 450,000 objects in the collection, there's always something new on view. Join a faculty member and see just what you want, from an Impressionist painting to a 5,000 year-old mummy to a current film. North End and Faneuil Hall Tour Enjoy an afternoon in Boston’s historic North End and explore the lively Faneuil Hall. You will visit some of Boston’s historical sites as well as some other fun stops. The tour will finish up at unique and famous Faneuil Hall. This trip is open to ALL STUDENTS and THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICPATE. You will only need additional money for lunch. 12:15 P.M. JFK Library and Museum Tour Travel back into the recreated world of the early 1960s and experience firsthand the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. Period settings from the White House and 25 multimedia exhibits create a stirring account of President Kennedy’s thousand days in office. Housed in a striking building designed by I.M. Pei, the national memorial to President Kennedy sits on a 10-acre waterfront site on Columbia Point offering panoramic views of Boston’s skyline and Harbor Islands. Shear Madness Shear Madness" is one of the most popular entertainments in the world, delighting audiences night after night with its unique blend of madcap improvisation and spine-tickling mystery. This unique comedy-whodunit takes place today in the "Shear Madness" hairstyling salon and is chock full of up-to-the-minute spontaneous humor. During the course of the action, a murder is committed and the audience gets to spot the clues, question the suspects, and solve the funniest mystery in the annals of crime. The outcome is never the same, which is why many audience members return again and again to the scene of the mayhem.
