    Role of Urdu Language in Pakistan Movement: A Historical Review 57 Role of Urdu Language in Pakistan Movement: A Historical Review Mr. Waqar Hassan* & Ms. Saadia Sultana** Abstract The passion for the creation of Pakistan was triggered by many undeniable realities in the chapter of Hindu Muslim differences. These differences were pervasive and multidimensional, not just confined to religion or culture. Amongst other factors that invigorated the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of Indo-Pak subcontinent, language was one of the major idea or part of the argument. This paper explores the contribution of Urdu language in Pakistan movement. It also focuses on how language emerged as a significant factor leading to establish Muslims‟ linguistic and cultural distinction from Hindus. As Islam was the religious identity of Muslims of subcontinent, Urdu emerged as their lingual identity. Despite multi-lingual diaspora of the Muslim population of India, when Urdu language came to be identified as the lingua franca of the Muslims, struggling for an independent state, they preferred to register Urdu as their mother tongue. Moreover, the article explores how various sections and representatives of Pakistan Movement, with their literary, journalistic and political work, prioritised the status of Urdu language during the course of Pakistan Movement and it concluded with the declaration of Urdu as the national language of the newly established state (Pakistan). Finally, the paper highlights Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah‟s vision and approach toward Urdu language. * M.Phill Scholar, Departmetn of Urdu, University of Sargodha.     Annual Report 2019-2020 MISSION STATEMENT National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) started its academic and administrative operations during IX Plan w.e.f. 01.04.1996. NCPUL was declared a national Nodal Agency for promotion of Urdu in the country and recognized as an important autonomous organization of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India devoted to promotion of Urdu language and mainstreaming of Urdu education. NCPUL has been given the role of networking of Urdu organizations throughout the country so as the policies of the Government could be implemented in all Urdu speaking areas of the country. For past few years NCPUL has emerged as an effective coordination mechanism for promotion of Urdu language and Urdu medium education in India. During the course of discharging its responsibilities, NCPUL has been assigned the additional responsibility of promotion of Arabic & Persian languages which have played an important role in the development of composite culture of India. The broad goals of the Council are as under:- 1) To promote, develop and propagate Urdu language. 2) To take action for making available in Urdu language, the knowledge of scientific and technological development as well as knowledge of ideas evolved in the modern context. 3) To advise the Government of India on issues connected with Urdu language and having bearing on education as may be referred to it. 4) To undertake any other activity for the promotion of Urdu language as may be deemed fit by the Council. 2. COMPOSITION: NCPUL has been registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act 1860.

Our leader grateful personality, bravely and love for nation impressed the women and they joined his ranks in thousand a million. Quaid-Azam considered the role of women in development of society as important as that of men. If all the speeches and observations of Quai-e-Azam are complied together we get a perfect picture of women with an ideal character and qualities. Quaid-e-Azam often spoke about the responsibilities which he envisioned for women. He believed that women’s participation in politics and social welfare work was not only benefit but also essential for the well being of the community. Quaid-e-Azam stressed that Muslim women have to play their due role in the spread of Islamic Ideals and Muslim brotherhood by actively taking part in the practical life. He wanted women to get as much educations men but he never wanted all women to work. He wished that women should walk shoulder to shoulder with men but also held that they should interest in their household work and in the social welfare work. Our dear leader Quaid-e-Azam a man of resolute will, completely incorruptible, a shrewd politician, and an advocate, prosperous and immaculate, I have refereed to him as Quaid-e-Azam or simply Quaid, or my or our leader. “A Rose called by any other name smells just as sweet” Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah coupled with their monumental scarifies, made Pakistan once a mere dream, as reality.
