In a re-peat of last year’s first round match Gerald Melzer kicks off the day’s action on Center Court when he takes on the Spaniard Albert Montanes. Last year the Spaniard got the better of the Austrian in straight sets. In the next match, a first-time meeting between 22-year-old Austrian wild card Dennis Novak and Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain. Novak, who is undefeated in Futures this year with a 15-0 record and three titles in three events, is appearing in his first tour-level event of the year. The last match on, is a first-time meeting between the 35-year-old Jurgen Melzer and the 23-year-old Taro Daniel of Japan. Melzer, who is ranked No. 414, is playing in his first tournament since qualifying into the US Open last year (l. to Berdych in 2R). He has been sidelined with a left shoulder injury.
