The Academy of Music Elects New Members to Board of Trustees

( , March 26, 2013) – The Academy of Music has elected three new members to its 12-member Board of Trustees: Teresa C. NinoNino, Assistant Vice President and Financial Advisor with Sader, Nino & Associates, Merrill Lynch, in Philadelphia, PA; JohnJohn SalerSaler, chair of Government and Public Affairs Practice Group at Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young LLP of Philadelphia, PA; and Adele SchaeSchaefferfferffer, emeritus trustee for the University of Pennsylvania, and trustee for multiple institutions including the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization. The Philadelphia Orchestra Association has owned the Academy of Music—a National Historic Landmark and the oldest operating opera house in the nation—since 1957. Mr. Saler and Ms. Schaeffer continue to serve on The Philadelphia Orchestra Association’s Board of Directors.

• As a financial advisor with Sader, Nino & Associates, Merrill Lynch, Teresa C. Nino is responsible for the development and oversight of client wealth plans. She also assists with insurance and estate planning services as well as succession planning for small business owners and legacy planning for wealth transfer, including LGBT families. During her tenure at Sader, Nino & Associates, Ms. Nino has been named to Philadelphia Magazine ’s FIVE STAR: Wealth Manager Best in Client Services listing in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Ms. Nino holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Literature from American University. She began her career in 2000 as assistant press secretary for US Senator Arlen Specter. From there, Ms. Nino moved into the education sector, working for American University’s Office of Admissions and Enrollment Services. In 2004 she began working for a local marketing firm and later joined Modern Marketing Solutions, a Memphis-based marketing firm focusing on client acquisition and execution of multifaceted brand campaigns. She currently serves on the Boards of the Legacy Fund and Community Outreach Partnership; acts as a committee member for the Academy of Music’s Anniversary Concert & Ball; is co-chair of the Young Friends of the Academy of Music Restoration Fund Committee; and is an active member of the ’s Barnes Circle Contemporaries. Ms. Nino is also involved with the Women’s Leadership Organization in Montgomery County, the Rotary Club, Eastern Star, and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and is past Young Friends co-chair of the Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball, having served for three consecutive years. She is also past president of the Horsham Republican Committee and past chairman of the Marketing Committee for Montgomery County’s Republican Committee.

• JoJoJohnJo hn Saler is chair of the Government and Public Affairs Practice Group at Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young LLP, where he provides government, business development, and media relations services to Fortune 500 companies, privately held firms, and nonprofit organizations. A 1980 graduate of George Washington University, he began his professional career at the Washington Post as a Metropolitan Desk staff member and later transitioned to television, working as an anchor/reporter and talk show host for ABC network affiliates in Virginia. Mr. Saler has also led a distinguished career as a campaign strategist, fundraiser, and political commentator. He was recently ranked as one of the “Top 50 Influential Democrats in Pennsylvania” by Politics Magazine and currently serves as chairman of the Philadelphia International Airport Advisory Board, appointed by Mayor Michael Nutter. Mr. Saler recently completed his term as a commissioner and member of the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Public Television Network (PPTN) Commission, where he was nominated by Gov. Edward G. Rendell and unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate. In addition, he recently completed his tenure as a member of the Wawa Welcome America Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and has served as finance chair of the Nutter Inaugural Committee. Mr. Saler’s career has earned him numerous awards and citations, including the Philadelphia Award for civic involvement, the Equitable National Leader Corps Award, the Project Rainbow Service Award, the Order of Kentucky Colonel’s Citation for public service, the Sigma Delta Chi Award for a news series he co-authored in the Washington Post, and the American Cancer Society Merit Award.

• Bryn Mawr, PA resident Adele Schaeffer received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences. As an alumna, she chaired numerous outreach efforts to bring alumni back to the University for enlightening lectures given by the school’s professors. She was also an active chair for the School of Dental Medicine and the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts; acted as vice chair for the Executive Committee of General Alumni Society; and was the project manager for the University’s participation in the Celebration of the bi-centennial of the Constitution, and chair of Commemorative Gifts for the 250th Anniversary of the school’s founding. Currently, Ms. Schaeffer is an active Board member and trustee for the following organizations: The Philadelphia Orchestra Association (Board of Directors), University of Pennsylvania (Emeritus Trustee), Wistar Institute (Trustee and Development Committee Chair), Moore College of Art and Design (Trustee), and Foreign Policy Research Institute (Trustee), a Philadelphia-based think tank. Ms. Schaeffer is a former co-chair of the Academy of Music Concert & Ball, Academy Program Book, and Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way; former National Liberty Museum chairman of the Board; and former docent for the Philadelphia Art Museum.

Ms. Schaeffer has been the recipient of numerous awards including the University of Pennsylvania’s highest honor, the Alumni Award of Merit; the National Organization of Hearing Research’s Leadership Award; the National Liberty Museum’s Founder’s Award; and the Wistar Award, a biennial award given to an individual who reflects the qualities of compassion, integrity, generosity, commitment, and vision demonstrated by the Institute’s founding members.
