The following vocabulary words will be found in the crossword puzzle for the post-Rose Hill Visit assessment. They should also be used in poem and book discussion, and may be incorporated in assessments such as multiple choice, matching, or used in essay questions. The words range in grade level K-3. blanket – a big piece of cloth used to keep people warm card – to straighten and fluff the wool; done on tools called hand cards cloth- the fabric that is made when you weave comb- a special tool used to pull apart the clumps of sheep wool to make it ready for spinning dye – a chemical color used to change the color of something ewe – an adult female sheep fleece – the coat of wool that covers a sheep flock – a number of animals of one kind, herding together such as sheep or goats lanolin – the fatty substance found in wool; used for lotions loom – a device used to make cloth by inter twining threads usually from wool, cotton or flax. pen- a fenced area to keep animals in pick – to pulling apart clumps of wool to remove dirt and straw ram – an adult male sheep shear – to cut or clip the wool fleece from a sheep shears – steel clippers used to remove the wool from a sheep sheep – an animal that grows a thick coat we use for clothing simmer – to cook hot and slow over a fire spin – to twist fibers together to form a yarn that is longer and stronger than the original fiber weave – to make cloth or fabric by interlacing threads wheel – a device used for spinning wool, with a large wheel and a spindle wool- the coat of sheep is made of wool, a strong and warm material that people spin and weave yarn-a piece of wool that has been combed and spun and ready to be woven
