The match marks the second occasion the two sides have met this season, following Round 6’s 1-1 draw at AAMI Park. In that match, a Ross McCormack penalty cancelled out Jaushua Sotirio’s opener in what was Josep Gombau’s first fixture in charge. Historically speaking it’s the Wanderers who hold an overwhelming advantage, grabbing nine wins to City’s four in the 16 league meetings between the pair. It’s also a fixture that tends to be high on goals, with an average of just over three being scored per game. Wanderers boss Gombau in particular will be keen to ensure City are on the receiving end of that statistic, as the Red & Black search for their first win at ANZ Stadium in the 2017/18 season. SPORTS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2014 Perez plays down Photo of the day Ronaldo spat amid surge in Madrid revenues MADRID: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sought to play down an apparent spat with Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday as he announced the La Liga club’s income had surged above 600 million euros ($778 million) in 2013-14. Perez, who has splashed hundreds of millions of euros of the European cham- pions’ cash on top players in recent years, said the loyalty of Ronaldo, the current World Player of the Year, had been “unquestionable”. The Portugal captain made headlines on Monday when he said the club’s transfer dealings in the latest window would probably have been different if he had been in charge. After winning a record-extending 10th European crown last season, when dressing-room heavyweight Ronaldo was the team’s top scorer, Real sold midfielders Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria and brought in Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez. The departure of Alonso to Bayern Munich, in particular, has prompted suggestions the Madrid club will not have enough quality and experience in midfield without him, while Argentine Di Maria is seen as close to Ronaldo. “I have no doubt that he (Ronaldo) did not want to question the club’s policies,” Perez told a news conference announcing 2013-14 income of 603.9 million euros, a 10.9 percent jump compared with the previous season. “He has just presented me with a replica of his ‘Ballon d’Or’ award, an exemplary player,” the construction magnate added. “There are no disagreements, zero.” Real stuttered in their second La Liga outing at the weekend when they let slip a 2-0 lead and crashed to a 4-2 reverse at Real Sociedad.

TECHNICAL REPORT 2008/09 Title in Arial bold 22 pt Subtitle in Arial regular 14 pt ENGLISH SECTION PARTIE FRANÇAISE DEUTSCHER TEIL STATISTICS PHOTO: POTTS / PA WIRE / PA IMAGES TECHNICAL REPOrt This report has been published as a record of the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League, which was the competition’s seventeenth season. In addition to the factual and statistical data that make it a valuable reference work, it contains analysis, reflections and debating points which, it is hoped, will give technicians food for thought and, by highlighting tendencies and trends at the peak of professional football, also offer coaches who are active at the development levels of the game information that may be helpful in terms of working on the qualities which will be needed by the UEFA Champions League performers of the future. Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand can only watch as Lionel Messi jumps just far enough upwards and backwards to deliver the looping header which put FC Barcelona 2-0 up in the 70th minute of the final in Rome. THE ROADS THAT LED TO ROME Distance is meant to lend perspective, but it can also blur the vision. The fact that the neutrals who, when the group stage kicked off in September, predicted a Manchester United v Barcelona final were watching it just over eight months later gives the impression that the 124-match pilgrimage to Rome had been a relentless march towards a foregone conclusion. That was by no means the case. It is easy to forget that FC Barcelona won only half of their home games, or that they were being counted out during the final seconds of their heavyweight semi-final contest with Chelsea – only for Andrés Iniesta to produce the stunning drive which earned a trip to Rome.
