Annual Report
German Institute for Economic Research | Annual Report CONTENT The Year in Review 4 1 Research, Professional Development, and Services 12 2 Organization 72 3 Policy Advice, Higher Education Work, 80 4 and Cooperation DIW Berlin | Annual Report 2015 FOREWORD Foreword When we look back on 2015 here at DIW Berlin, the most important event was certainly the Institute’s 90th anniversary. Since its establishment as the Institut für Konjunkturforschung (Institute for Business Cycle Research) in 1925, DIW Berlin and its staff have played a key role in economic and social processes in Germany and the rest of Europe providing important stimuli for debate. Joined by many of the Institute’s friends, DIW Berlin used the occasion of its 90th anniversary to recall its eventful history focusing particularly on the economic policy challenges of the last few decades: on July 1, 2015, an official ceremony was held at the historical Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin under the motto The Road to Europe – 25 Years of German Monetary Union. Yet 2015 not only saw DIW Berlin looking back on the past – we also devoted our energy to thinking about our future. What are the Institute’s objectives for the next few years? How do we want to work together and what are our most important goals? With these fundamental questions, a strategy process was initiated within the Insti- tute which culminated in a strategy paper entitled DIW_Berlin: 2020. The Executive Board and the individual departments worked in close cooperation to define the Institute’s priorities and objectives for the coming years. These were also incorporated into a new mission statement in which DIW Berlin describes itself as a location for academic debate. -
