- Future prospects

Overview of changes On the 1st October 2014 the management of the BritRail Pass range was brought back in-house by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) after having been franchised for the last 15 years.

Prior to its management starting, ATOC made extensive research into the usage and revenue productivity of the BritRail Pass and its range. The research showed that travel plans of customers over the last few years have changed.

Having worked through all possible combinations of passes that exist in the current range today, it was decided that rationalisation was needed in order to make the pass range more manageable and seamless going forward.

Therefore, as from 1st January 2015 you will see a slightly amended BritRail Pass range to better suit our current market. The main differences are listed beneath: - BritRail Logo o A new rebranded BritRail Logo will appear from 1st January 2015 - BritRail “Euro” Price Range (for European customers) o Has been removed from all passes and kept for the “BritRail Pass” only - BritRail Party Pass o This pass has been removed from the range and replaced by the “Saver Pass” - BritRail Pass & Ireland o This pass has been removed from the range - BritRail Guest Pass o This pass has been removed from the range - BritRail Eurail Passholder Discount o This pass discount will be discontinued - BritRail London Plus Pass o 2 Day and 7 Day passes now become 3 Day and an 8 Day passes respectively o Airport coupons will be withdrawn and amalgamated within the pass itself from 1st January - BritRail Pass validities and durations o 2 Month validity discontinued, all Flexi passes will now be a 1 Month validity o All passes will be selected from within standardised durations: Flexi - 2*, 3, 4, 8, 15 Days (*2 Days European residents only) Consecutive - 2*, 3, 4, 8, 15, 22 Days & 1 Month (*2 Days European residents)

These changes reduce the possible combinations of passes by 50% and will enable ATOC to load all passes into the TIS operating systems, making it a lot more streamlined for the pass going into the future.

Therefore as from 1st January 2015 the BritRail Range will be made up of the following rail passes: BritRail Pass BritRail England Pass BritRail London Plus Pass BritRail Freedom of Scotland Pass BritRail Central Scotland BritRail Freedom of BritRail South West Pass Pass Scotland Pass

Visual BritRail Re-Brand

You will all have seen the current BritRail Logo, which is as follows:

The current Logo (above) will be gradually replaced on tickets and marketing material as from 1st January 2015 and it is hoped that all references to the old logo will have disappeared by 1st July 2015.

The new BritRail Logo (below) will be released on all tickets and marketing material from 1st January 2015 onwards:

What is BritRail?

BritRail is the brand given by ATOC to a range of Rail Passes which cover rail travel in Britain.

The BritRail Pass range has been designed to encourage international travellers coming to Britain to use the train. Some of the special features of BritRail include its competitive pricing and flexibility to travel at any time.

BritRail Passes can be sold to anyone who has a permanent residence outside of Britain.

Customers must purchase their BritRail Pass before travelling as BritRail Passes are not available to purchase in Britain. (* Please note customers are not able to have their passes replaced at a station in UK if lost or stolen, they will have to contact the booking agent who they initially purchased through.)

9. BritRail Pass Ticket Format (layout) Samples:

There are three accredited formats (or layouts) for the BritRail Pass and the BritRail Pass Range.

* Please note the new logo will start to appear on all passes as from 1st January 2015

10. BritRail Pass Types: There are two major styles for the BritRail Pass, these are for the Consecutive or Flexi Pass types.

On all occasions the customer must have their pass validated by a TOC ticket office before they can start.

Consecutive Passes – once validated are for continuous travel from the selected first date of travel for however many calendar days their pass entitles them to?

Flexi Passes – once validated have a “valid from” and “valid to” field which shows the customer’s “1 month” validity they have to travel within… …then there are the date boxes, which they fill out themselves for each day of travel they are entitled to.

Pass Names - The different passes on offer all share the same two Consecutive and Flexi styles. All that changes within the pass is the name.

The following passes will be seen as names: - BritRail Pass - BritRail England Pass - BritRail London Plus Pass - BritRail Freedom of Scotland Pass - BritRail Central Scotland Pass - BritRail Highlands Pass - BritRail South West Pass - The following discounts may be applied to the above passes (*not all, see aforementioned pages for full details of discounts) - Low Season Discount - Saver Pass - ITX (inclusive tour ticket) - TA Discount (Travel Agent discount – foreign equivalent of TADA) - Complimentary - Free Day Promotion

Further Examples:

See below an example of a Flexi Pass, the first one is a BritRail Pass and the second one is a BritRail London Plus Pass, note the same ticket style but a different pass name:

Future Prospects

Phase 1 is to have the new range ready for sale on 1st January 2015.

Phase 2 is to have the BritRail Pass Range available as Ticket On Departure (TOD) TOD is where a customer collects the ticket at the station from Ticket Vending Machines (TVM’s) using their booking reference.

The tickets will be printed on the standard orange credit card sized tickets that are in use in Britain today.

There is no fixed date on phase 2 being launched but we are anticipating some time during 2015.
