Arlington foursome wins annual outing

The 2021 Hancock Sports Hall of Fame golf outing had a historical twist on Friday, June 25th at Hillcrest Golf Club. The fifth annual gathering featured a reunion of 2017 inductee Terry Grose and 2003 honoree Jack Winters as they returned to the site of their 1971 Hillcrest club championship showdown. Fifty years earlier, Grose took the 36-hole title with a 2-up victory over Winters. Once the competition began, Dave Krauss shot a hole-in-one on No.3 and the 23 teams survived occasional rain showers. An Arlington contingent . . . Jason Vermillion, Seth Newlove, Scott Bergman & Jon Brimley . . . claimed their first Hall of Fame scramble championship by finishing with a 17-under 55, walking away with a complimentary round of golf at the Findlay Country Club, a 's Restaurant gift card, a Hall of Fame money clip and a $50 Donald Ross sports shirt. Tim Boutwell's Masterpiece Golf Classics team was 2nd with a 58 on a scorecard tie-breaker and earned a round of golf at either Hillcrest, Fostoria Country Club or Loudon Meadows as well as Tony's gift cards and a 2-ball Hall of Fame golf sleeve. Dewey Beach, Neil Schaller & Mike Scherer joined Boutwell. The teams of Krauss, Caleb Scott and Ammons claimed the payoff of $140 each. Newlove received $320 for his share of the 50/50 drawing. Sam Bello, a 2010 Hall of Fame inductee and current HOF committee member, provided an Italian sausage entrée along with pulled pork from Tony’s Restaurant. The event generated $6,500 and the funds will be used exclusively to enhance the Hall of Fame’s presence at Tony’s Restaurant.
