Members of RCEME Flight received training on the new TLD TXL-838-UNI split loader. The new split loader is designed to load and unload materials from various aircrafts. It is driven into place and it acts basically like an elevator to add or remove loads. Members who participated in the training, from left to right, are: Mr. Randy Blair, Mr. Bill Granger, Mr. Greg Saunders, Cpl. David Young, Mr. Norm Lott, Mr. Rawls (instructor) and Cpl. Jimmy Legacy. In addition to training, these members also performed some repairs to enable the new asset to be put in service in a timely manner on the Wing.

Despite the training being “very challenging,” Sgt Ma- clean said it is also quite enjoyable because it is like the real thing. “But this kind of thing is certainly not for the faint of heart,” he adds. “You need to be able to make timely, accu- rate decisions in a high-stress environment.” Before anyone can undergo loadmaster training, the can- didate must have about five years’ experience as a traffic technician. This is because the ideal candidate must have experience working within an air movements section, as well as ground experience (loading and unloading an air- craft). Traffic technicians plan and manage the movement of people, supplies and equipment. Their duties include pas- senger reception, warehouse operations, and aircraft load- ing/unloading. For more information on becoming a traffic technician, visit www.forces.ca Those Canadian Armed Forces mem- bers wishing to become loadmasters should discuss the op- tion with the chain of command or career managers.
