A total of 5 nudibranch species are reported from the Norwegian coast for the first time (Doridoxa ingolfiana, Goniodoris castanea, Onchidoris sparsa, Eubranchus rupium and Proctonotus mucro- niferus). In addition 10 species that can be considered rare in Norwegian waters are presented with new information (Lophodoris danielsseni, Onchidoris depressa, Palio nothus, Tritonia griegi, Tritonia lineata, Hero formosa, Janolus cristatus, Cumanotus beaumonti, Berghia norvegica and Calma glau- coides), in some cases with considerable changes to their distribution. These new results present an update to our previous extensive investigation of the nudibranch fauna of the Norwegian coast from 2005, which now totals 87 species. An increase in several new species to the Norwegian fauna and new records of rare species, some with considerable updates, in relatively few years results mainly from sampling effort and contributions by specialists on samples from poorly sampled areas. doi: 10.5324/fn.v31i0.1576. I have indexed them only for information concerning systematics, taxonomy, nomenclature, & description of taxa (as these are my areas of interest, and to have tried to index for areas such as physiology, behavior, ecology, neurophysiology, anatomy, etc. would have made the job too large and I would have given up long ago). This is a working list and as such may contain errors, but it should allow you to quickly find information concerning the description, taxonomy, or systematics of almost any species of nudibranch. The phylogenetic hierarchy used is based on Traite de Zoologie, with a few additions and changes (since this is intended to be an index, and not a definitive classification, I have not attempted to update the hierarchy to reflect recent changes). Names in square brackets and preceded by an equal sign are synonyms which were listed as such in at least one of the cited papers. Seasearch Wales 2017 Summary Report Seasearch Cymru 2017 Adroddiad Cryno Report prepared by Kate Lock, South and West Wales Co-ordinator Lucy Kay, North Wales Tutor Charlotte Bolton, National Co-ordinator Seasearch Wales 2017 Seasearch is a volunteer marine habitat and species surveying scheme for recreational divers in Britain and Ireland. It is coordinated by the Marine Conservation Society. This report summarises the Seasearch activity in Wales in 2017. It includes summaries of the sites surveyed and identifies rare or unusual species and habitat encountered. These include a number of priority habitat and species in Wales. This report does not include all of the detailed data as this has been entered into the Marine Recorder database and supplied to Natural Resources Wales for use in its marine conservation activities. The species data is also available online through the National Biodiversity Network. During 2017, Seasearch in Wales continued to focus on priority species and habitats as well as collecting seabed and marine life information for sites that had not been previously surveyed. Data from Wales in 2017 comprises 88 Surveyor forms and 21 Observer forms, a total of 109 forms. Seasearch in Wales in 2017 has been delivered by two Seasearch regional co-ordinators. Kate Lock has co-ordinated the South and West Wales region which extends from the Severn estuary to Aberystwyth. Liz Morris-Webb has co- ordinated the North Wales region which extends from Aberystwyth to the Dee. The two co-ordinators are assisted by a number of active Seasearch Tutors, Assistant Tutors and Diver Organisers. Overall guidance and support is provided by the National Seasearch Co-ordinator, Charlotte Bolton. -

Native Oyster, Ostrea edulis, Milford Haven Waterway Survey report. March 2017 Kate Lock Funded by: www.biodiversitysolutions.org.uk Supported by: 1 Introduction Background to Seasearch Seasearch is a UK project for volunteer recreational and professional divers. The divers are trained in species and habitat recording and help survey the seabed around the British and Irish coasts. Survey forms are quality checked by experienced marine biologists who enter all data into the UK national database Marine Recorder, managed by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, which contributes to the National Biodiversity Network. The main aim is to provide quality assured Seasearch data to partner organisations and the public. However the project also aims to raise public awareness of the diversity of marine life and habitats in Britain and Ireland through the dissemination of information gathered and the identification of issues arising from it. Seasearch surveys record the various types of seabed found in the near-shore zone around the whole of the UK, recording what lives in each area, contribute to establishing the richest sites for marine life, the sites where there are problems and the sites which need protection. Surveys also target important habitats and species that have been identified by the UK government to need priority conservation action. In Wales this is detailed in the Environment (Wales) Act 2016: Section 7 Biodiversity lists and duty to take steps to maintain and enhance biodiversity. The Section 7 list includes the Native oyster, Ostrea edulis. Previous Milford Haven Native Oyster Diving Surveys Historically, Milford Haven supported a thriving Native oyster fishery but disease and overexploitation led to population collapses; the same has occurred to Native oyster beds across much of Europe. -

Several authors have studied the marine Heterobranchia (Mollusca, Gastropoda) fauna composition living in the Ionian Sea, but to date further knowledge regarding this interesting group of mollusks is still needed. Recent studies have corroborated the peculiarity of the Mediterranean Sea showing high levels of endemism and cryptic diversity. On the other hand, marine sea slugs have been revealed to be important indicators of the marine ecosystem’s health, due to their species-specific diet that consist of a vast variety of sessile and benthic invertebrates. A baseline study of the marine Heterobranchia diversity is therefore a necessary step to reveal the hidden diversity and to monitor the possible presence of alien species. The present study shows results from approximately 600 scientific dives carried out during a nine-year period in all of the main submarine habitats of the studied area, while accounting for the marine Heterobranchia from both the Ionian and Adriatic Seas. -

ABSTRACT The ultrastructural features of spermatogenesis were investiga ted in the nudibranch mollusc Spurilla neapolitana. Sperm develop in the proximal half of numerous sac-like acini which are radially arranged within about ten ovo testis lobes. Accessory cells line the inner wall of the testicular portion of each acinus and are connected to developing sperm by numerous desmosomes. Stages of spermatid development have been divided into precup, cup, postcup, and elon gate stages depending on the general shape of the nucleus. Nuclear differentiation includes the formation of anterior and posterior nuclear plaques, condensation of chromatin fibrils into nuclear lamellae, the insertion of the developing flagellar ax oneme into a shallow, nuclear implantation fossa, and eventual formation of an elongated sperm head with a terminal twist. Spermiogenesis also includes the dif ferentiation of an anterior, perinuclear structure having the characteristics of an acrosome, the appearance of peculiar arrays of ER cisternae, and the fusion of mi tochondria into a large mitochondrial derivative which eventually encircles the ax oneme, forming a crystalline-like periaxonemal sheath. -
