IBS Tennis Academy by Thomas Enqvist” 7 September 2017 WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE PARTNERSHIP WITH FORMER WORLD NUMBER 4 TENNIS PLAYER – THOMAS ENQVIST As Head of School at IBS of Provence, I have the great pleasure to announce our most recent collaboration with Thomas Enqvist, a former World Number 4 professional tennis player as well as an IBS parent, in the creation of the “IBS Tennis Academy by Thomas Enqvist”. This collaboration will offer players of all levels (from grass roots to budding professionals) to train in a safe, fun and professional atmosphere allowing students to attain the best level possible, in tennis and in their studies. Thanks to our new primary school, the program will begin for children from the age of 5 years old and continue up until the final year of school at IBS. This will allow us to help train our players from a very young age while watching them develop their tennis skills over the years. As part of the “IBS Tennis Academy by Thomas Enqvist”, there will also be a New Sports/Studies program for tennis players at a more professional level who wish to also focus on their studies in order to access the best universities in the world. I am sure this program will be a success and will continue in our aim to offer a high level of sports to our students while never sacrificing the importance of academic learning. They both go hand-in-hand to forming happy and healthy students at IBS. As part of this new program, Graham Sinclair, Head of the IBS Tennis Academy, would like to invite all parents to come and hit with Thomas Enqvist, our coaches and our Sports Studies players on Friday, September 29th from 2 pm to 5 pm (all levels welcome!) at the upper tennis courts. THOMAS ENQVIST BIOGRAPHY Thomas Enqvist is of Swedish origin and has been playing tennis since the young age of 4 years old. In 1991, he won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon making him the number 1 rank junior player in the world. He won his first of 19 ATP titles in 1992 at the tender age of 18. He was also a member of the winning Swedish Davis Cup team twice. Thomas Enqvist highest ranking was 4th in the world and finished the year in the Top 10 players four times during his career. He has played and beaten other world champions over the years on the ATP tour such as Sampras, Agassi, Becker and Federer. After finishing his fifteen year long professional career in 2006, Thomas worked for the Swedish Tennis Federation with their Junior program and was also the Davis Cup Captain for Sweden. In 2014 Thomas was coaching the Spanish former top ten player Fernando Verdasco. Thomas continues to play tennis and all of us at IBS are honoured that he will be sharing his vast knowledge and technical skills with our tennis program at IBS! Ce programme se développera également au sein de notre nouvelle Ecole Primaire, dès le cours préparatoire. Il nous permettra de suivre et de guider nos jeunes joueurs d’année en année jusqu’à la Terminale en leur assurant le meilleur entraînement possible et le développement optimal de leurs capacités. IBS Tennis Academy by Thomas Enqvist offrira également un programme Sports/Etudes qui donnera la possibilité aux élèves de jouer à un niveau professionnel tout en maintenant un haut niveau d’engagement dans leurs cursus académiques pour intégrer ensuite les meilleures universités du monde. Je suis persuadé que cette Académie de Tennis sera un grand succès et prolongera notre quête de l’excellence car à IBS nous sommes convaincus que le sport et les études vont de pair pour former des élèves sains et heureux. THOMAS ENQVIST BIOGRAPHY Thomas Enqvist est d’origine suédoise et a débuté le tennis à l’âge de 4 ans. En 1991, il a gagné l’Open d’Australie et Wimbledon, devenant numéro 1 mondial des joueurs juniors. Il a gagné le premier de ses 19 titres ATP en 1992 à l’âge de 18 ans. Il a également été membre de l’équipe de coupe Davis suédoise gagnant la coupe à deux reprises. Il est parvenu au rang de N°4 mondial et a fini l’année dans le Top 10 quatre fois au cours de sa carrière. Lors de tournois ATP, il a affronté et battu de grands noms du tennis comme Pete Sampras, André Agassi, Boris Becker et Roger Federer. Après son dernier tournoi en 2006, achevant sa carrière professionnelle de 15 ans, Thomas a travaillé dans le programme junior de la Fédération Suédoise de tennis et a également occupé le poste de capitaine de l’équipe de coupe Davis de Suède. En 2014, Thomas a coaché l’ancien Top 10 mondial, l’espagnol Fernando Verdasco. Aujourd’hui, Thomas continue à jouer au tennis et nous sommes tous honorés à IBS par sa présence et son désir de transmettre son savoir dans notre nouvelle académie. .
