Constructed 2004

Th e John Deitrich Field House, constructed in 1982, was resurfaced in 2004. Th e track now features the same polyurethane surface as the outdoor track, enabling the Mules to train harder without worrying about the injuries that cropped up from running on the previous surface. Th e teams combined to break 16 school records in their fi rst season with the new indoor track, and both fi nished second at the Centennial Conference Championships. A jump pit and a pole vault box were also added, giving the teams the opportunity to host limited indoor meets. Muhlenberg hosts a multi-team invitational every year and a pentathlon most years.

1. Will Elson, Ben Phillips, Josh Cohen and Brian Cash came in fi fth in the distance medley relay at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, helping the Mules to a 10th-place fi nish. The foursome posted the fastest DMR time in Division III that year.

2. Will Elson earned All-America honors both indoors (second in the 1,500 and fi fth in the DMR) and outdoors (third in the 800) in 2003. His second-place fi nish in the indoor 1,500 is the best ever by a Mule athlete or team at an NCAA Championship.

3. Stuart Udis, Peter Rice, David Chorney and Bobby Torphy toppled the school record set by the 2003 All-America DMR team and fi nished one place higher (fourth) at the NCAA Championships. Their coach? None other than Will Elson.

4. Sarah Mitchell became the fi rst member of the women’s track & fi eld team to earn All-America honors by placing seventh in javelin at the 2006 NCAA Championships.

5. John Brodowski fi nished fourth in the decathlon at the 2005 NCAA Championships. The fi rst athlete in program history to compete in the national meet three years, Brodowski set a school record of 6818 in the decathlon at the NCAAs; when he came to Muhlenberg the mark was 3815.

6. Alex Faust placed seventh in the pole vault at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Only three other competitors in the meet cleared the bar higher than Faust’s 12-6¼.

TRAILBLAZERS [ Bob Haldeman, Jim Remaley, Ray Schmoyer and Art Hill won the College Class mile relay at the 1942 Penn Relays.

Amanda Wachter fi nished third at the fi rst Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships in 1993. She [still holds the school records in the outdoor 3,000. Katrina Beck was the fi rst female athlete in Centennial Conference history to win the same indoor event four times. She dominated the high jump from 1998 to 2001, adding three outdoor golds.] www.Muhlenberg.edu/sports • 25 M U X H C L / cross country Indoor track and fi eld outdoor track and fi eld E • september • january • march T Fri 4 Lehigh Valley Championships (Lehigh) Fri 15 Kutztown Invitational Sat 27 Lafayette Seven-Way Meet Sat 19 Dickinson Long/Short Meet Sat 23 Orange & Maroon Classic (Susquehanna) • april N • october Wed 27 Ursinus Multi SAT 3 MUHLENBERG INVITATIONAL R Fri 2 Paul Short Run (Lehigh) FRI 29 MUHLENBERG INVITATIONAL Fri 9 Bucknell Distance Classic Sat 17 Leopard Invitational (Lafayette) • february Sat 10 Th e Coach P Open (Moravian) B Sat 31 CC Championships (Gettysburg) Sat 6 Frank Colden Invitational (Ursinus) Th r 15 Kutztown Multi A • november Fri 12 Lafayette/Rider Games (NYC Armory) Fri 16 Kutztown Multi E Sat 14 NCAA Mideast Regional (Lehigh) Fri 19 Keogh Invitational (Haverford) Sat 17 Greyhound Invitational (Moravian) Sat 21 NCAA Championships (Baldwin-Wallace) Sat 27 CC Championships (Haverford) Th r 22 Penn Relays C • march Fri 23 Penn Relays R Fri 5 Columbia Last Chance Qualifi er (NYC Armory) Sat 24 Lehigh Games K Fri 12 NCAA Championships (DePauw) Fri 30 CC Championships (Swarthmore) Sat 13 NCAA Championships (DePauw) • may G Sat 1 CC Championships (Swarthmore) Sun 2 CC Championships (Swarthmore) Mon 10 Swarthmore Last Chance Meet 2 Th r 20 Oneonta Twilight Qualifi er Th r 27 NCAA Championships (Baldwin-Wallace) C Fri 28 NCAA Championships (Baldwin-Wallace) 0 O Sat 29 NCAA Championships (Baldwin-Wallace) 0 L 9 L - E 1 G 0 E
