  • Queen Anne's Revenge Shipwreck Project Volume 5, Number 2
Update from the Queen Anne's Revenge Shipwreck Project Volume 5, Number 2 Summer 2005 Field Expedition A Success This past May project staff supervised a four- week excavation at the QAR site marking the first time since October 2000 that whole-scale artifact recovery took place. Major support was received fromGolden LEAF Foundation, Cape Fear Community College, US Coast Guard Fort Macon, Comfort Inn of Morehead City,Intersal Inc. and Nautilus Productions.Department of Cultural Resourcessupervisors and staff came from the NC Underwater Archaeology Branch and NC Maritime Museum. Of the 20 field days, inclement weather kept them ashore for four days, more often than not, providing time needed to catch up on paperwork and equipment maintenance. As usual, it was hard work: up at 7:00 A.M., on the boats by 8:00, checking all gear and equipment, and casting off by 8:30. They were on the site by 9:00 for seven to eight hours of excavation, carefully noting and recording where artifacts were found, hauling them to the surface, and preparing them for transfer to the conservation laboratories at East Carolina University in Greenville. Each day's crew usually included 12 divers, crew members, and QAR staff, but some days there were others aboard: visiting scientists, archaeologists, an occasional VIP guest, and TV filming crews. By the end of the month, they had raised 308 pieces, ranging from a 2000-pound cannon to lead shot and eventually there will be more because 154 of those pieces are heavy concretions that will yield more artifacts when taken apart.

  • Craven County Emergency Operations Plan, Dated __May 3, 2010______, As a Regulation and Guidance to Provide for the Protection of the Residents of Craven County
EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN May 2010 CRAVEN COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA TO: COUNTY GOVERNMENT MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT RESIDENTS OF CRAVEN COUNTY By virtue of the powers and authority vested in me as the Chairman of the Craven County Board of Commissioners, I hereby promulgate and issue the Craven County Emergency Operations Plan, dated __May 3, 2010______, as a regulation and guidance to provide for the protection of the residents of Craven County. This plan outlines the coordinated actions to be taken by County officials and volunteer organizations to protect lives and property in natural or man-made disasters. It identifies forces and resources available for deployment to prevent, minimize, and recover from injury, loss of life, and destruction of property which tragically characterizes disasters. Every attempt has been made to identify and designate available forces and resources at all levels of our government to be utilized in response to emergencies and disasters. Planning, preparation, and timely response must be our goals if all citizens of Craven County are to realize and enjoy the services and protection of our government. This plan is effective for planning upon receipt and for execution when directed. The County Manager is responsible for the maintenance and updating of this plan, as required, in coordination with the County Emergency Service Director and appropriate participating agencies and units of government. All County employees are subject to be assigned duties that are in addition to their normal responsibilities and are subject to work outside of their normal hours for the duration of the emergency. This plan rescinds the Craven County Emergency Operations Plan, and all changes, dated November, 2005.
