For one to know more about the issues surrounding the island would be to visit one of the coffee places in . There is Did-ra-Ngmatel in central Koror across from Pa- lau Community College with Furusato Restaurant across from High School. Rock Island Café sports diverse individuals located close to the Court House with Best Donuts and Coffee House in Dngeronger Hamlet featuring a totally different audi- ence. However all places have one thing in common and that is the discussion of issues pertaining to politics in the republic but with different taste to each issue. Many of the candidates to Congress congregate these places to gain each perspective viewpoint to help with their visitations to household. At Rock Island Café one may witness individuals like Hideo Termeteet, George Kebekol, Ermas Ngerachelbaed, Vic- tor Joseph and many others whispering what the newspaper may consider front page story. Furusato Restaurant is also not spared this reality as observed by Alfonso Diaz, Noriwo Ube- dei, Santy Asanum, etc… whose topics ranges from simple topics all the way to the top. For Did-ra-Ngmatel, the coffee area is stacked with the likes of Harry Fritz, Belechel Ngirngebedangel, Joel Toribiong, Roman Yano, Hermino Olkeriil, James Orak, and many other loyal customers to the store. Similar to issues raised by the “COFFEEHOUSES” continue on page… 11

Members of the Palau Public Lands Authority with Ngiwal Public Lands Authority members including Governor Masas- inge Arrurang, Delegate Noah Idechong of the House of Dele- gates and people of Ngiwal witnessed the granting of the “quitclaim deeds and certificates of compliance” to the home- steaders and/or their descendants. According to PPLA, interested individuals filed their appli- cations for homestead in 1959. A year later in 1960, issuance of entry permits to allow applicants to enter and work on the designated lands in accordance with the terms and conditions related to homestead were issued. By 1966, inspections of the homesteads were conducted by Yashiro Ngirailild and Kalistus Polloi of the Palau District Agriculture Office accompanied by Palau Public Lands Authority Trustees from left to right Jason Kesolei surveyor Marcus Bechab of the Lands Office. Roureur Belau Join the Island ZÜxxà|Çzá yÜÉÅ à{x‹ Alii… and welcome to Roureur Belau. For the third time I am surfacing Roureur Belau and once again venturing into the world of publish- ing a local paper after stopping twice thus closing down shop as a result of unforeseen circumstances that dealt with not one but many difficulties one encounters in this line of work. Roureur Belau was first established in June 2000 pub- lished by Island Creations Publication amidst the two power- ful local newspapers Tia Belau and Palau Horizon. The title, … roughly translated,… means all over or completely cov- ered. It is best when used to describe the wind like… “Tia el iolt a mla roureur belau,”… or portraying a picture such as… “a klisichel a REKLAI a roureur a despedall ra Ba- beldaob.” “IF THE COST OF GASOLINE DOES NOT STOP… In the beginning, Roureur Belau printed stories in the English language and mainly ran after stories that were nor- I WON’T BE ABLE TO VISIT FRIENDS AND mally not printed by Tia Belau and Palau Horizon. Than RELATIVES IN THE BIG ISLAND” later on the Palauan language was included due to demand. It was rewarding to bring stories aside from government news printed in the local language that eventually gained some mighty loyal followers, especially Senior Citizens who now and than called up to correct our Palauan grammars. It was fun and educational at the same time. In the July 2008 edition debut, Roureur Belau comes out under MoonShadow Publications with a new face-lift and instead of printing hard copies as was done previously, I will utilize the NET and publish the paper through electronic means posting the paper On-Line each Friday of the week. Roureur Belau will strive to publish stories that the three local papers (Tia Belau, Palau Horizon, and Island Times) chooses not to bring to the public’s attention. However, I will print interesting, exciting, and fascinating stories from Tia Belau, a paper I helped started and managed in its opera- tion in the early 90’s. The paper will hopefully open doors to our people and friends residing outside of Palau by bringing to the readers stories that touched everyday lives of our people back home. The paper opens the door to Palauan readers residing outside of Palau that they may request stories on issues and will ac- cept stories and pictures for publications from the readers with their name printed after the story. The month of July 2008 will be a promotional month for Roureur Belau as a free subscription. Stories from previous publications will be printed in the paper to enhance and remi- nisce the old days of Roureur Belau in its beginning years. Along the way the paper will make changes as there is much to improve as well as instructions on how to subscribe to the paper. Like all papers, Roureur Belau will accept criticism through “letters to the editor” and any other means of com- munication to improve itself but will definitely not accept letters using inappropriate words. Palau has come a long ways and for those who still think the island is in the dark ages… well,… think again!
