FROM SUFFRAGE TO STONEWALL 2019 DAVID ALAN MILLER HEINRICH MEDICUS MUSIC DIRECTOR DAVID ALAN MILLER, HEINRICH MEDICUS MUSIC DIRECTOR Grammy®Award-winning conductor David Alan Miller has established a reputation as one of the leading American conductors of his generation. Music Director of the Albany Symphony since 1992, Mr. Miller has proven himself a creative and compelling orchestra builder. Through exploration of unusual repertoire, educational programming, community outreach and recording initiatives, he has reaffirmed the Albany Symphony’s reputation as the nation’s leading champion of American symphonic music and one of its most innovative orchestras. He and the orchestra have twice appeared at “Spring For Music,” an annual festival of America’s most creative orchestras at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Other accolades include Columbia University’s 2003 Ditson Conductor’s Award, the oldest award honoring conductors for their commitment to American music, the 2001 ASCAP Morton Gould Award for Innovative Programming and, in 1999, ASCAP’s first-ever Leonard Bernstein Award for Outstanding Educational Programming. Frequently in demand as a guest conductor, Mr. Miller has worked with most of America’s major orchestras, including the orchestras of Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and San Francisco, as well as the New World Symphony, the Boston Pops and the New York City Ballet. In addition, he has appeared frequently throughout Europe, Australia and the Far East as guest conductor. He made his first guest appearance with the BBC Scottish Symphony in March, 2014. Mr. Miller received his Grammy Award in January, 2014 for his Naxos recording of John Corigliano’s “Conjurer,” with the Albany Symphony and Dame Evelyn Glennie.

PFIZER PAC & CORPORATE POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS REPORT 2005 – 2006 CYCLE Learn which candidates we supported in your community PFIZER PAC ~ OUR VOICE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS A Message From Rich Bagger, Chairman Pfizer PAC Dear Colleagues: One of our five immediate priorities at Pfizer is to engage more actively and meaningfully with patients, doctors, payers, governments and other key stakeholders. We’re reaching out to these important groups and working harder to meet their needs. We're also working harder to engage all stakeholders in the dialogue on health policy and actively participate in the discussion over how to improve the quality of healthcare, access to medicines, and incentives for innovation. Pfizer PAC is one of the key ways in which we engage with candidates for public office. Through Pfizer PAC, we support candidates who understand the importance of innovative life sciences companies like Pfizer in fighting disease, improving health outcomes, and ensuring access to vital medicines. This report includes a list of candidates and political committees that Pfizer PAC supported during the 2005-06 election cycle. I hope you will take some time to review this report and see which candidates Pfizer PAC supported in your region. This was a successful year for Pfizer PAC. In the past election cycle, Pfizer PAC supported more than 2,277 candidates from both political parties, and at all levels of government. You, and Pfizer colleagues across America, definitely made a difference this past year through Pfizer PAC, by supporting candidates for public office who value access and innovation in healthcare. Mikkelson 1 Copyrighted by Sarah Elizabeth Korneisel Jaegers 2019 2 Abstract While American and western European works make up the majority of the classical clarinet repertoire known and studied in the West, works of Turkish origin are the focus of this document. Though over 100 pieces of Turkish classical clarinet repertoire exist, they are widely unknown to Western musicians, uncatalogued, and seldom performed. Consequently, although the clarinet is a staple of Turkish music and is extremely popular in the country’s folk tradition, classical clarinet music by Turkish composers remains difficult for Western musicians to find and acquire. The history of Anatolia as a cultural melting pot resulted in diverse and unique classical and folk musical traditions, both based on the makam modal system. Unlike the Western tradition, which developed twelve-tone equal temperament, the octave in the Turkish modal system comprises twenty-four unequally-spaced tones. The clarinet was introduced to Turkey by Giuseppe Donizetti (1788–1856), who traveled to Turkey at the behest of the sultanate to found European-style bands. Particularly appreciated was the clarinette d’amour, pitched in G.
