Calohelcon obscuripennis Turner is redescribed and illustrated for the first time. Calohelcon roddi n.sp. from New South Wales is described, illustrated and differentiated from C. obscuripennis. The hindwing of C. roddi possesses a distinct transverse vein m-cu, a feature unknown in any other Helconinae but present in many members of the 'cyclostome' subfamilies Doryctinae and Rogadinae, and in the apparently related Alysiinae, Betylobraconinae, Gnamptodontinae, Histeromerinae, Opiinae and Telengaiinae. The presence of hindwing vein m cu is interpreted as a plesiomorphous character state in the 'cyclostome' assemblage, but it is suggested that the presence of m-cu in some Calohelcon, represents a re-expression of genetic information, the expression of which had been previously suppressed. -

The species of the genus Aulacocentrum Brues (Braconidae: Macrocentrinae) from China are revised and keyed. Two new species are described and illustrated. Introduction The genus Aulacocentrum Brues, 1922, of the subfamily Macrocentrinae Foerster, 1862 (Braconidae), is a rather small genus with three species described from the Palaearctic and Oriental regions. A revision of the genus is planned to be published soon by the second author. It can be separated from the closely related genus Macro- centrus Curtis, 1833, by the following characters (van Achterberg, 1993): first meta- somal tergite (at least partly) distinctly transversely striate; length of first tergite 3-8 times its apical width; vein SR of hind wing moderately to strongly bent; vein SC+R1 of hind wing abruptly bent; fore femur moderately long setose dorsally, somewhat shorter than ventrally; and length of inner hind tibial spur 0.3-0.5 times length of hind basitarsus. Previous records indicate that Aulacocentrum species are mainly endoparasites of larvae of Pyralidae (Lepidoptera). In this paper three species of the genus are reported from China; two are new to science. -

Imada Hawaii Biological Survey Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96817, USA Final Report prepared for the U.S. Navy Contribution No. 2021-003 to the Hawaii Biological Survey EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Bishop Museum was contracted by the U.S. Navy to conduct surveys of terrestrial arthropods in Hālona Valley, Naval Magazine Lualualei Annex, in order to assess the status of populations of three groups of insects, including species at risk in those groups: picture-winged Drosophila (Diptera; flies), Hylaeus spp. (Hymenoptera; bees), and Rhyncogonus welchii (Coleoptera; weevils). The first complete survey of Lualualei for terrestrial arthropods was made by Bishop Museum in 1997. Since then, the Bishop Museum has conducted surveys in Hālona Valley in 2015, 2016–2017, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The current survey was conducted from August 2020 through November 2020, comprising a total of 12 trips; using yellow water pan traps, pitfall traps, hand collecting, aerial net collecting, observations, vegetation beating, and a Malaise trap. The area chosen for study was a Sapindus oahuensis grove on a southeastern slope of mid-Hālona Valley. The area had potential for all three groups of arthropods to be present, especially the Rhyncogonus weevil, which has previously been found in association with Sapindus trees. Trapped and collected insects were taken back to the Bishop Museum for sorting, identification, data entry, and storage and preservation. The results of the surveys proved negative for any of the target groups. -

Malaise and light traps and sweeping nets were used to obtain adult specimens from various habitats in the study area during 2010 and 2011. The collected materials from southeastern Anatolia and from new localities of other regions were identified and a total of 11 species from 5 genera determined, of which the species Diospilus morosus Reinhard is a new record for southeastern Anatolia. All species are new records on the basis of provinces of Turkey. The distributions of the species were evaluated considering the zoogeographic regions. Recently Eady & Clark (1964) have fully revised the European forms of this genus. Having read their excellent publication I have keenly felt that Japanese forms should be revised again. In the course of the present study thirteen species have been known to occur in Japan. It seems that Japan, as defined in this work, has a comparatively rich fauna of Macro centrus. It is interesting to note that ten of these species appear to have a wide distri butional range extending from Europe to Japan: above all three of them, M. marginator (Nees), M. linearis (Nees), and M. grandii Goidanich, have been also known to occur in North America. Of the rest the one, M. philippinensis, is an only Oriental species having been known to occur in the Philippine Islands, Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan, and the other two are new to science, one being closely related to M. -

Gadallah1*, Hassan Ghahari2 and Donald L. J. Quicke3 Abstract Background: The cosmopolitan family Braconidae is one of the largest in the order Hymenoptera. Many of its members are important as biological control agents against more than 120 pest species belonging it four insect orders (Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera) that cause economic damage to various agricultural, horticultural, and forestry plants and trees. Due to the lack of regional studies, as well as taxonomic complexities compared with well-studied other western Palaearctic countries, the faunistic knowledge of this family is still largely incomplete. Results: Based on specimens collected from different localities in Iran, as well as material deposited in different Iranian collections, twenty-five braconid species are recorded for the first time from Iran. Collectively, these belong to ten subfamilies (Alysiinae, Brachistinae, Braconinae, Cheloninae, Euphorinae, Exothecinae, Hormiinae, Ichneutinae, Microgastrinae, and Rogadinae). Two genera, Pentatermus Hedqvist (Rogadinae) and Stenobracon Szépligeti (Braconinae), are reported in the present study for the first time. Specimens are identified with the help of specialists, as well as using the available keys for each subfamily. A faunistic list comprising the valid species names and the extralimital distribution are given. Conclusions: In the present study, a list of 25 species and two genera, Pentatermus Hedqvist (Rogadinae) and Stenobracon Szépligeti (Braconinae), are newly recorded from Iran, thus raising the total number of this important group as biocontrol agents to reach 1038 species. -

The first study examined the utility of expressed sequence tags for resolving relationships among hymenopteran superfamilies. Transcripts were assembled from 14,000 sequenced clones for 6 disparate Hymenopteran taxa, averaging over 660 unique contigs per species. Orthology and gene determination were performed using modifications to a previously developed computerized pipeline and compared against annotated insect genomes. -
