St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) is a premier institution for higher education in Kerala. We are committed to empower women through imparting knowledge and life skills. Quality and innovation are crucial elements on which the value of higher education depends. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of St Teresa’s College is committed to ensure that high standards are maintained in all the aspects of the process of education.

The Indian higher education system is on the brink of great transformations in order to facilitate global competencies and we are also in the process of adapting to these changes. The achievements and accolades we have accumulated over the years is a testament of the institution’s inherent strength. The reputation we enjoy as an exceptional institution of learning brings a tremendous sense of responsibility on us and inspires us to raise the bar further. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of St. Teresa’s College, established on 30 June 2004, has over the years, developed a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the performance of the College.

The IQAC Gazette is a magazine devoted to highlighting the most significant advancements in St. Teresa’s College from an academic perspective. This is the third issue of the magazine and our goal is to showcase the efforts of the Teresian community in promoting quality education, addressing technological challenges and encouraging research in areas of significance.

The Teresa Lima Award The 'Teresa Lima Award' instituted by the Management to honour a 'Woman Achiever of the Highest Social Standing' was awarded to Smt. Lisba Yesudas for her contributions towards the welfare and development of the underprivileged coastal communities in Kerala.

INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTS The newly constructed Central Block of the College was blessed by Archbishop Emeritus Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarackal and inaugurated by Rev. Sr. Dr. Chris CSST, the President of the College on 13 October 2017.

College aims at academic excellence to ensure quality in all enrichment programmes were organized for the holistic operations. Faculty Enrichment Programme on ŸA session entitled ‘New Accreditation Framework Prescribed by NAAC’ was organized on 15 December 2017 by Dr. R. Selvam, Consultant for NAAC Accreditation process and External Academic Auditor. ŸA talk on ‘Ethics, Values and Spirituality’ was organized on 16 March 2018. The resource persons for this one-day Career Enhancement programme were Dr. Joseph I. Injodey, Sri. John Paul, Brother Satish and team.

Collaborative Learning Programme for Academic Advancement of Students

Collaborative Learning Programme for Academic Advancement of Students - The English Department collaborated with the IQAC for the Collaborative Learning Programme for Academic Advancement of Students. The programme was lauched on 20 December 2017 and inaugurated by Ms. Diana Vincent, Managing Trustee, Fourth Wave Foundation. This year also embarked a new journey of academic and cultural exchange with Semester at Sea, a study abroad programme managed by Colorado State University, USA and a session on National Conference on Modern Trends in Research cross cultural exchange with University of Virginia, USA. Summer Programme at Richmond University - As a part of summer programme at Richmond, The American International University, London-UK, 9 Under Graduate and Post-Graduate students from St. Teresa's College attended a three week long exchange programme from 21 May2018 to 9 June 2018. Some of the topics chosen by the students were 'Economic problems of developing countries', 'Creative expressions', 'Foundations in photography' etc.

This year the College has successfully completed the Fourth PG Examination Results (April 2016- 2018) - Five year of autonomy by conducting examinations and publishing students achieved overall A+ for PG studies from the Dept results promptly, with Dr. Romily Margret Mendez, as the of Chemistry and MCom, 4 from Mathematics and Zoology, Controller of Examinations. 3 from Masters in Fashion Designing, 2 from the Dept of Bharathanatyam and Botany, 1 each from the Departments of The PG Department of Chemistry and the PG Department of Physics , French – Travel and Tourism, Home Science - Food Bharathanatyam have achieved cent percent pass in the End Science and Nutrition. The books, ‘Advanced Inorganic, Organic and Environmental Chemistry’ authored by Dr. Ushamani , Dr. Saritha Chandran, Ms. Mary Lincy , Ms. Rupa Kamath and Ms. Elizabeth Mary and ‘Advanced Organic Chemistry’ by Dr. Jaya T. Varkey, Ms. Annu Raju, Ms. Elizabeth Kuruvilla, Ms. Rani Maria Syriac and Ms. Stephy P.S. were the maiden publications of the Teresian Publishing House.

23 ...... The IQAC Gazette 2017-18 ...... These books which deal with the Complementary Courses offered to the students of the Departments of Botany, Zoology and Home Science is a noteworthy and signicant initiative of the faculty members of the Department of Chemistry. Another book on ‘Environmental Studies’ based on the UGC syllabus for Undergraduate courses of all branches of higher education was also released by the Teresian Publishing House. The book was authored by Dr. Ushamani and Dr. Saritha Chandran from the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Sheela D from the Department of Botany, Dr. Priya K Nair, the Department of English and Dr. Swathy Varma from the Department of Economics.

The members of the faculty attend orientation programmes and refresher courses to keep abreast of the latest developments in their respective elds. Faculty members are also involved in collaborative research projects funded by various agencies and have undertaken many major and minor projects.

International Conference on Sustainable Globalization - St. Teresa's College was one of the co-organizers of the conference organized by University of Wisconsin Parkside at JW Mariott Hotel, Kochi. Faculty from the Department of Economics, English, Management Studies and Travel and Toursim presented seven papers at the conference.

Dhwani -The Department of Bharathanatyam organized an International Seminar 'Dhwani' led by Ms. Keiko Okano, Japanese artist, Nirmala Panicker and Guru Manu Master on 5,6 February 2018.Miss Keiko Okano took the session on 'Revival of Deshi compositions in ' and the second session was on 'Tala scheme of Nattuvangam and Mrudangam' by Sri. Kalamandalam Harikrishnan and Kalaimani Kalamandalam Kartgika Harikrishnan.

International Seminar on Digital Marketing - An International seminar on ‘Digital Marketing’ was conducted by the Department of Commerce on 7 March 2018. Resource persons Mr. Andrin Mendez, CEO, founder of 'Pling', Mr. Vijesh Pillai, CEO and trainer at 'Kreative Sparks' briefed about search engine optimisation, social media marketing, afliate marketing, Youtube marketing etc. Mr. Varun Chandran, CEO of ‘Corporate 360’ joined the seminar via video conferencing and suggested several measures that India can adopt to fully tap the potential of digital marketing.

Trends in Solar Energy-The Department of Physics conducted an International Lecture Programme on ‘Emerging Trends in Solar Energy’ on 4 January 2018. (ICONNECT) - Initiatives for conservation of nature and energy is coordinated by Teresians under the Department of Physics and Mr. Jonathan Selwyn, Director, Solar Consulting Ltd and chairman, Solar Trade Association. He serves as the non- executive Director in F V Energia , a Polish Solar developer International Lecture Programme on Emerging Trends in Solar Energy and is a trustee of the Armstrong Global energy foundation, which is investing in off grid solar and biomass projects in India.The seminar gave an insight to the emerging trends in the solar energy sector and the signicance of shifting to this technology.

Workshop on International Research Methods and Academic Skills - An intensive workshop on 'International Research Methods and Academic Skills' was organised on 8, 9 August 2017, to familiarise academics and potential researchers with international research methods widely practiced in Anglo-American universities. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Christy Fernandez IAS and spearheaded by Dr. Sreenath Nair and Dr Arya Madhavan, University of Lincoln. On 23 June 2017, a collaborative venture of the Department of English with the Fourth Wave Foundation titled 'VENDA: Say No to Drugs' was agged off with cultural events. Project 'VENDA' initiated by the Fourth Wave Foundation aims at helping teenagers to resist the temptation of substance abuse and to rehabilitate those addicted to it.

The Department of Sociology conducted a workshop on Transgender Issues, 'Shilpashala' on 9 August 2017 following which a Transgender Fashion Show was organized. The department also initiated a 'Skill Development Programme' for the transgender community to improve their communication skills in English. This is a rst-of-its kind weekly skill development programme for transgenders with a focus on communicative skills in English. Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) The Department of B.Voc Food Processing Technology organized an Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp by KITCO, a premier infrastructure and management consultancy organisation promoted by SIDBI along with other banks and Govt. of Kerala which aims at creating entrepreneurship awareness among participants and opportunities available as an entrepreneur. The three days - November 23, 24 and 25, 2017 training program focused on The Entrepreneurship Development club of St.Teresa's College schemes of supporting organizations like Financial Institutions organized an industrial visit to Kerala Technology Innovation and Industries Dept and other Regulatory Authorities, Zone, Kinfra Hi-Tech park, Kalamasery on 12 Dec 2017. The Identication of business opportunities, salient features of a visit was to Fablab which is a platform for students and public Project report, Interface with successful entrepreneur an to experiment their projects ,use their machines and tools at Achievement Motivation & Industrial visit, etc very nominal fees. In order to synergize women and those prevented from exercising their rights, through enlightening them regarding their basic human rights and helping them to achieve the same, various departmental associations, several clubs and the Women's Cell in particular, organize talks and seminars. Classes related to the theme of gender, rights of women and women empowerment are taken for students across the College by all the class teachers during the value education classes. They handed over Rs.35000/- to the family of Sri. Anush. The PTA representatives met the Higher Education Council Committee to highlight the merits of autonomy.The untiring efforts of the PTA assists in attaining the vision and mission for which the Institution stands for.

Jesus Youth Initiatives

SCHOLARSHIPS The students of the College have availed the Prathibha Scholarship, DST- Inspire Scholarship and other scholarships offered by the Kerala Higher Education Council. The College ensures that the underprivileged students avail every scholarship offered by the government.In addition, the College and its well wishers have instituted a series of scholarships for the deserving and needy students. It is a matter of immense fulllment that 60 % of the total student strength are awarded scholarships under various schemes, thanks largely to the interest, initiative and efforts of the management. The College also offers various scholarships such as SC/ST, OEC, FC, SEBC, JNB Trust, Stars, Alumnae, Navathi, PTA Endowment scholarships and other Special Scholarships.

The SC/ST Monitoring Cell caters to the educational and nancial needs of the SC/ST students with remedial coaching classes, distribution of free study materials and allocation of funds for purchase of study materials. Parent Teacher Association of the College

A quiz competition entitled Quiz Bowl was organized by the PTA AstA in collaboration with the Speaker's Forum of St. Teresa's for the students of the Under Graduate courses of all the College, conducted the 41st Mother Digna Ever Rolling departments of the College on 20 September 2017. Nineteen Trophy Inter Collegiate Debate Competition on the 3 February departments were represented by two students each. The rst 2018. The Association of St. Teresa's College alumnae has been dynamically involved in the overall welfare of the College. The annual general body meeting of AstA was held on 13 August 2017 in the College. The new ofcer bearers were selected. Farewell was given to the outgoing President - Mrs. Valerine Abrao. The new ofcer bearers - Mrs. Suma Ravindran (President), Mrs. Bernie Mohandas, Secretary and Mrs. Soya P S (Treasurer) were welcomed. The offstage events as well as grafti competition was held on the rst three days and onstage events on the next three. All the onstage competitions were judged by prominent personalities in the respective elds. Celebrity guests attended the events adding more colour to it. The overall championship trophy was secured by the III DC headed by their representative Ms.Krishna M.S.
