. FSA 2017 Calendar 2 Our History - 1948 The Formation of FSA

. In 1948, Roger Flournoy and a small group of salesmen founded the Dallas American Food Salesmen Association and the Fort Worth American Food Salesmen Association.

. Under the leadership of Bill Renfro and Jim Burkley, the two groups merged. Within the next 10 years, the group became known as the Food Sales Association – The FSA.

3 Our Vision

. The FSA became a 501(c)(3) non-profit public foundation and began awarding scholarships in 1998.

. In January 2014, the Board of Directors, in order to reinforce the organization's purpose and mission, voted to change the Association’s name to: FSA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

. To build long term sustainability with the intent to provide scholarships to deserving employees of the North Texas Food Industry the Board has created an endowment fund. FSA SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND

. In Progress: Investigate the feasibility and opportunities to expand FSA statewide.

4 2017 Expansion

. Early in 2016, the FSA Board of Directors explored the opportunity to expand the FSA Scholarship Program into new geographic regions.

. has been selected for a FSA Chapter because of existing relationships with both Retailers and Vendors. FSA plans to partner with them by January 2017. During the year FSA will create fundraising events for scholarship funds that will be awarded in April 2018. Plans are for the FSA Houston Board of Directors to operate under the FSA DFW Model.

. Lubbock was selected to be incorporated as a satellite territory to operate under the DFW Board. This will require adding approved counties for scholarship applicants and a revision to the interview process via electronic means.

. Tyler and Lufkin were selected as new territories depending upon the response from Retailer in that region.

. Austin, San Antonio and the I-35 corridor was consider to be to many areas at this time and will be looked at next year.

5 Our Mission Statement

The FSA Scholarship Foundation is committed to:

. Promoting careers and developing industry and community leaders by annually awarding college scholarships to deserving graduating high school students and adults working in North Texas area food stores. . Providing forums, such as our annual golf tournament or partnership luncheons, for the sharing of information between grocery retailers and their suppliers. . Promoting relationships among members that are engaged in the manufacture and distribution of food and beverage products, and business services. . Supplier Members participate in FSA through S.W.I.M. (Scholarship Winners in Mentoring) and through volunteer activities at events and on the Board of Directors. . Creating a scholarship legacy through the FSA Endowment Fund by obtaining private and public donations and grants.

7 FSA Scholarship Foundation Scholarship Benefits to the Food Retailer

. Participate with peer retailers in the FSA Scholarship Program. . FSA has awarded over $1,153,000 in scholarships to 566 deserving individuals working at retailer grocery stores. . Individual award is $2,500 per student . Average annual award approximately $60,000 - $80,000 . FSA provides all administration of the program through its Board of Director and volunteer network. . Announcement guidelines and applications, interview process, and awards presentation . Scholarship fulfillment, payments to universities, fiduciary responsibility to retailers and students. . Opportunity to customize the Scholarship Program to meet your needs.

8 FSA Scholarship Foundation Benefits Beyond Education

. Participation with other Food Retailers in the community . Relationship building through the R.A.B. Retailer Advisory Board . The RAB Board is designed to provide direction and guidance to the FSA Board of Directors and meets semi-annually. . FSA provides a forum for the exchange of information with the vendor community through is fundraising event driving programs that benefit the FSA Scholarship Bonus Program. . Partnership luncheons, Chili-cook-offs, theme park days, skeet shoots, Top Golf, and many more.

9 FSA Scholarship Program

The FSA is dedicated to providing future leaders in the retail food industry with scholarships. These scholarships are funded through partnerships with local retailers and special events sponsored by the FSA. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 1999 1,153,000.00 has been awarded to nearly 566 winners.

21 FSA Scholarship Foundation – Endowment Fund

. The FSA Endowment Fund was created January 2014 for the purpose of creating a FSA scholarship legacy for deserving individuals in the food retail industry. . Principal contributions will remain intact and are invested in perpetuity. This is a timeless fund where interest earned from investments can help fund the annual scholarship program. . Managed by the FSA Financial Committee under a strict Financial Strategy designed and approved by the Board of Directors. . The single focus of the fund is to supplement the FSA Scholarship Fund enabling additional and larger scholarships to the food retailers’ employees.
