Bbc Earth Celebrates 50 Years of Earth Day with a Special Week of Programming
MEDIA ALERT 2nd April 2020 BBC EARTH CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF EARTH DAY WITH A SPECIAL WEEK OF PROGRAMMING View Earth Week trailer BBC Earth is celebrating 50 years of Earth Day with Earth Week, a special line-up of programming which looks at the beauty of our planet both up close and from far away and explores our vital role in ensuring its future. Screening each evening at 8.30pm from Monday, April 20, the week kicks off with the premiere of Blue Planet Revisited, exploring the challenges facing the marine eco-system and wildlife in the Great Barrier Reef and the Bahamas. The cameras then move from under the ocean to hundreds of kilometres up in the sky in Earth From Space, capturing natural spectacles on an epic scale and showing viewers the planet’s extraordinary beauty and diversity in astonishing detail. The week will finish with a special Sunday screening of every episode of David Attenborough’s iconic Planet Earth II. Presented by Liz Bonnin, Chris Packham and Steve Backshall, Blue Planet Revisited returns to two key locations featured in Blue Planet II to see how things have changed, talk to the scientists who know our oceans best and give us a snapshot of the health of the ocean. With the breeding season underway, the series focuses on the action following whales and their calves and turtles and their hatchlings together with spectacular footage of shark dives in the Bahamas and the underwater dawn chorus of the Great Barrier Reef, home to 600 different kinds of coral and more than 1500 species of fish. -

Centre for Cultural Policy Research Department of Theatre, Film and Television University of Glasgow Glasgow G12 8QQ December 2008 © Caitriona Noonan, 2008 Abstract This thesis examines the way in which media professionals negotiate the occupational challenges related to television and radio production. It has used the subject of religion and its treatment within the BBC as a microcosm to unpack some of the dilemmas of contemporary broadcasting. In recent years religious programmes have evolved in both form and content leading to what some observers claim is a “renaissance” in religious broadcasting. However, any claims of a renaissance have to be balanced against the complex institutional and commercial constraints that challenge its long-term viability. This research finds that despite the BBC’s public commitment to covering a religious brief, producers in this style of programming are subject to many of the same competitive forces as those in other areas of production. Furthermore those producers who work in-house within the BBC’s Department of Religion and Ethics believe that in practice they are being increasingly undermined through the internal culture of the Corporation and the strategic decisions it has adopted. This is not an intentional snub by the BBC but a product of the pressure the Corporation finds itself under in an increasingly competitive broadcasting ecology, hence the removal of the protection once afforded to both the department and the output. -

BBC Children's News and First-Run UK Originated Programmes
BBC Children’s news and first-run UK originations Statement on the BBC’s request to change its Operating Licence [] Redacted for publication BBC Children’s news and first-run UK originations – Welsh overview STATEMENT: Publication Date: 28 July 2020 Contents Section 1. Overview 1 2. Background 4 3. Our decisions on changes to the Operating Licence 7 Annex A1. Comparison of current and revised Operating Licence conditions 50 A2. Notice of Variation 56 A3. Equality impact assessment 59 1. Overview This document explains Ofcom’s final decisions following a request by the BBC to change its Operating Licence to allow it to meet its news and new content commitments for children by increasing its online provision. This follows a consultation setting out our provisional views, which we published in November 2019. Our research shows that children are increasingly consuming content online, while the reach of linear television on the TV set among children is continuing to decline.1 In April-May 2020, during lockdown, linear viewing saw a resurgence among children, but it is already falling again.2 Given these changes, the BBC must innovate and adapt its approach in order to stay relevant to its youngest audiences. In Ofcom’s most recent Annual Report on the BBC3, we said that the BBC needs to work harder to reach young people by making content that appeals to them and ensuring that it is readily available where they want it. If younger audiences don’t engage with the BBC, then public support for the licence fee could be eroded, which is a significant risk to the future sustainability of the BBC. -

Supreme Court of Norway
SUPREME COURT OF NORWAY On 28 November 2018, the Supreme Court gave judgment in HR-2018-2268-A, (case no. 2018/233), civil case, appeal against judgment RiksTV AS (Counsel Andreas Bernt) (Assistant counsel: Rasmus Asbjørnsen) v. TONO SA (Counsel Camilla Vislie) (1) Justice Webster: The case concerns claims for compensation for breach of the Copyright Act. The question is whether RiksTV AS's distribution of TV channels in the terrestrial network constitutes a communication to the public within the meaning of section 2 of the 1961 Copyright Act and section 3 of the 2018 Copyright Act. If that is the case, the performance requires the authors' consent. (2) RiksTV AS – RiksTV – distributes TV channels in the digital terrestrial network. The company is owned by NRK, TV2 and Telenor, and its business activities consist of selling various channel packages to subscribers all over Norway. RiksTV purchases broadcast content/channels from various broadcasters/producers of TV channels. (3) TONO SA – TONO – is a collection society managing the copyrights to musical works on behalf of the right holders. The management comprises the rights of TONO's interest holders – often referred to as members. Furthermore, TONO manages the rights of the members in similar organisations worldwide under reciprocal representation agreements. TONO collects fees for public performance of the music and passes on all revenues to the members. (4) Anyone who wishes to make copyrighted material available to the public must do so with the consent of the author or of a collecting society like TONO. The obtaining of such authorisation is often referred to as "clearance".
