“In the Name of Love” Planning Committee Weekly Report

2020/02/19 Day 1
On Wednesday, 02/19/2020, the Minnesota International Chinese School began a collaboration with the Chinese American Chamber of Commerce – MN and the Council for US-China Medical Technology Exchange to raise funds to purchase supplies urgently needed by major front-line hospitals in China. The fundraiser began with a goal of purchasing 50-100 medical-grade oxygen concentrators, 1,000 no-touch infrared thermometers, and other medical supplies such as medical face masks and protective clothing. The supplies would be purchased directly from the manufacturer and sent directly to the hospitals with the greatest need. Within the first three hours of the planning committee’s forming, Chinese- and English-language drafts of fundraiser documents were completed and payment channels (including credit card) were established on the fundraiser website. At 6:45pm, the fundraiser was simultaneously published on the MICS website, WeChat, Facebook and Twitter accounts. The first donations immediately came in, along with much support from other community organizations who forwarded fundraiser information to their own respective groups.
2020/02/20 Day 2
Thursday, 02/20/2020. The planning committee received its first company donation and continued to send emails calling for support from all corners of the Minnesota community. New promotional documents for the Restaurant Call to Action event were created as we called on local Chinese restaurants to aid in the fight against the virus.
2020/02/21 Day 3 Friday, 02/21/2020. “Minnesota Restaurants in Action” press release sent to all major local media outlets. Almost 20 Chinese restaurants heeded the call to action!
2020/02/22 Day 4 Saturday, 02/22/2020. Grand Szechuan became the first restaurant to take action. After a day of high enthusiasm and brisk business, they donated a portion of their revenue to “In the Name of Love,” totaling $500. In just 72 hours, donations surpassed$10,000 as we met out first goal!
2020/02/23 Day 5
Sunday, 02/23/2020. Tokyo Sushi &Grill became the second restaurant to take action.
At 9:43am US time, the Council for US-China Medical Technology Exchange used donated funds to purchase and send 20 oxygen concentrators to the following five hospitals:
10 devices to: Wuhan Youfu Hospital, 187 Fazhan Ave, Hanjiang District, Wuhan
5 devices to: Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, 238 Jiefang Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan
2 devices to: Qiaokou HanzhengStreet Community Health Service Center, 632 Changdi Street, QiaokouDistrict, Wuhan
2 devices to: Wuhan No.1 Hospital,Orthopedic Surgery Department 13995500548, Floor 14, SurgeryBuilding, 215 Zhongshan Ave, Qiaokou District, Wuhan
1 device to: Hubei Cancer Hospital,116 Zhuodaoquan S Road, Hongshan District, Wuhan
