Page 2 ASFACTS ASF Priority Activities Community outreach ASF has always taken a centre stage in responding to social development by engag- ing on issues that are affecting the lives of children, young people, old people and those who are less fortunate. In all the provincial conferences that ASF had in the past 10years the PEC made it a point that there is an outreach taking place in the community that we hosting our conference. This project has been successful as we have touched many lives and this we do by dedicating our time, skills and knowl- edge & love for our communities. Outreach is one of the programs that must be car- Outreach ried out by all the An‟socs and regions and we have seen it happening successfully. Voluntary Counselling and Testing VCT is an important strategy for HIV Literacy & prevention and access to treat- ment, care and support services. In 2007 a resolution was passed that during our pro- vincial conference VCT must form part of the provincial Conference program. This was done in order to encourage ASF members to live a positive life style and lead by examples. We believe that knowing our status will assist us in taking good care of our lives and protecting our loved ones. VCT has been successful during confer- ences as ASF members tested in numbers. ASF member are also been encouraged to Liaison Bishop testing do continuous testing and not wait for the provincial conference. “To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting Spiritual Growth and Development sentence or quote from the story here.” One of the objectives of ASF is to proclaim the gospel of Christ and you can only proclaim the gospel of Christ if you know who is Christ and His doings. An‟soc are always encouraged to have regular bible studies and revivals in order to discuss, share good news and revive each other from the bible and to be able to go out and make disciple and most of all to grow spiritually. Bible studies and revivals are also encouraged on the regional level. It is also an ASF culture during provincial confer- ences to start our business day with Bible studies conducted by chaplains. Social Events As ASF we acknowledge that we are coming from different back ground and we need to learn and understand our different cultures. This we do by having social Bible Study gatherings like picnics, movie nights, beauty contests and many other creative ways each region develop to break the ice between the members etc. Developing Mature Christian Leaders Our Mission statements states that we seek to develop mature Christians leader and we have seen members of ASF going to the corporate world being matured and equipped and we manage to achieve this through having workshops such as leader- ship, HIV/AIDS, gender workshops and other workshops like Anglicanism and cul- tural workshops that respond to the challenges that are facing students and young people in our Institutions, countries and communities. ASF also encourages its membership to get involved in Diocesan and parish events. Creating a Home away from Home We always seek to create a home away from home for everyone who joins ASF. Home away from home is a place where you feel welcomed, loved and a place Talent show where you will never go hungry and you always supported in everything you do. Chaplains are always there as our parents Page 3 ASFACTS December 2011 The Cultural weekend at GP/MP God is working in you, giving you the desire and power we sincerely believe we did a fantastic in assisting the to do what pleases Him. 1 Pastoral Letter from Synod of Bishops – February 2017 Faith in the Real World Pastoral Letter from the Synod of Bishops 25th February 2017 Dear People of God, We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Bishops of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA), we met in Synod in Benoni from Monday 20th until Saturday 25th February 2017. The full bench of Bishops was present, including: Those from all the countries that make up our Province of the Anglican Communion – St Helena, Angola, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa; Those who were Consecrated Bishop on Saturday 25th February – Rt Revd William Mostert, Bishop of Christ the King (southern Gauteng) and Rt Revd Vicente Msosa, Bishop of Niassa (northern Mozambique). As always our meeting took place in a framework of worship and warm fellowship as we shared our lives and worked on issues facing the church and our communities. At our opening Eucharist we heard the words of Jesus, “All things can be done for the one who believes!” (Mark 9:23) and the response, “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). We met as church leaders and people of faith who are deeply aware of the challenges facing our churches and communities and the desperate need for leadership of the highest quality. Most of our time this week was devoted to receiving training in the basics of Economics and Management, and reflecting on how God is calling us to exercise leadership in today’s economic climate. We were ably led by Prof Martin Büscher (Institute for Diaconic Science and Diaconic Management (IDM), Protestant University of Wuppertal/Bethel, Germany) and Dr Bright Mawudor (Deputy General Secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches).
