The whole of Year 5 have been busy forming their own political parties and campaigning to run the school when they are in Year 6. The children have had a brilliant time devising exciting ideas so they can run a special British Values day next year and have been busy canvassing at both Broadwood and Pound Pill.

Congratulations to the winning party - The United Freedom Party – as well as all the other parties, who really gave it their all. Every idea was fantastic and the children all did brilliantly well – it was lovely to see such wonderful collaboration within all of the parties campaigning.

We wish The United Freedom Party all the best with running the school for the day when they move into Year 6.

We are delighted to announce that following a rigorous assessment visit by four Healthy School Assessors, Primary has been bestowed the Healthy School Gold Award – the first primary school in !

This award is particularly pleasing to receive as it assesses the whole school approach and teaching of Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. To qualify for gold level, we had to pass the silver level Wiltshire Healthy School award which we achieved in 2014. Gold level Wiltshire Healthy Schools has provided us with a unique opportunity to show- case our sustained commitment to the health and wellbeing of our pupils. Special thanks go to Mrs Vines and Mrs Hawkins who prepared our submission to the awarding panel and for organising the assessment visit to Broadwood.

Please take a moment to look at our Corsham Primary School SEF—Self Evaluation Form, which outlines the school’s achievement and practice against criteria. It is a requirement that all schools maintain and publish an up to date SEF and you can read our summary version on the website here: www.corshamprimary/Our School/School Self Evaluation Governors’ Awards

These awards were presented to the school from former Governors and families of the school. They are given to Year 6 children who have been nominated by their teachers for super effort in Literacy, Numeracy and Sport.

Huge congratulations to:

Amy D for Literacy Millie D for Numeracy Elodie T for Sport

Medicines in School

School staff are not able to give non-prescribed or prescribed medicine to pupils with short term ailments.

If pupils need non-prescribed medicine or prescribed medicine for short term ailments during the school day, parents/carers will need to come in and administer the medication themselves or nominate someone to do so on their behalf.

School staff can only administer prescribed medication to a pupil if it is for a life-long condition. In these circumstances, an Individual Health Care Plan is drawn up in consultation with the school nurse, the school and the parents/carers.

DON’T FORGET... CHILDREN’S CHOICE HOME LEARNING

If your child would like more home learning we would like to remind you of our home learning scheme, ‘Children’s Choice’. This initiative runs alongside our current Home Learning policy, in which children have home learning set regularly, aimed at consolidating learning in class (see our policy for details).

Children from Year 2 upwards can choose extra home learning activities from the special “Children’s Choice” box in their classroom. You will be able to recognise it because it has a special stamp on the activity sheets. These activities will be appropriate to your child’s year group but may not necessarily link with the learning in class during the week or with the home learning that has been set. Children’s Choice home learning should be marked at home by parents/carers or other family members and can be returned to school to share with others in their class. Teams of 6 £8 per person

Tickets are available from Mrs Wheeler [email protected] Telephone 01249 713284

CITIZENSHIP WEEK

Citizenship Week was a huge success in Year 6. So many parents came along to share their passion for their jobs and careers. The parents were all pretty impressed with Year 6 as well. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who kindly volunteered to share their working lives and give our children a valuable insight into the array of opportunities ahead of them.

On Tuesday 17 May, Pound Pill and Broadwood had a netball competition. It took place at Broadwood—we played 4 matches, each game was 8 minutes long and each time we rotated our positions.

Everyone had a really lovely time and played well, trying their hardest.

After all the matches finished, the score was 12-1 to Broadwood.

By Lucy and Leah

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 took part in an orienteering event at Pound Pill.

Everyone enjoyed a challenging and fun afternoon navigating around the school, looking for marked destinations on a map. The winning team comprised Anna E, Lee T, Louie C, Simon K and Sasha D.

Thank you to everyone who has kindly collected Active Kids vouchers for us—we have received more than 16,000 this year and are proposing to buy a variety of sports equipment for school with them. Twelve excited Year 4 pupils travelled to Tennis Club to play against other schools in the Mid Wilts Tennis Competition. This was the first time that some of the children had experienced playing competitive tennis and after a few practise shots, their confidence grew and every game they played just got better with them all showing great sportsmanship and positive attitude throughout the afternoon.

We played in teams of 4 with each single and doubles match lasting 6 minutes against All Cannings, Sherston, Urchfont and St Barnabas and finished in 3rd, 4th and 6th place.

Quotes of the day from our team "I definitely recommend trying to have a go at tennis" and "It was amazing and I am going to keep playing" .
